Chicago Road course design
Chicago Road course design
I was downtown today on my bike cruising through the last day of taste of Chicago. I went as far north as North Avenue Beach and south to Northerly Island (it will always be Meigs Field to me, ******' Daley). Then I was sitting near the Mechandise Mart looking across the river at Wacker and thinking about the Blues Brothers chase scene through there and under the CTA tracks. Then I starting thinking to myself "Hmmm, I wonder if I could figure out a good road course through the city that would be a fun, fast drive at like 3am." I thought some more and figure other people have probably put together courses in the past, so I thought I'd post my stuff, and see what other peoples ideas are too.
My course starts on I290E (the Ike) into the City. Take the Lower Wacker Drive ramp and cruise through lower wacker all the way to Lake Shore Drive. Take that south to I-55, back out to I-90, back around to I-290 again.

The Wacker ramp is lots of fun:

This section of the Dan Ryan through the circle interchange is under construction right now, but at 3am it should still be pretty open.

And Lake Shore Drive has a lot of stop lights, but any road course through Chicago has to have LSD in it!
This isn't part of the course, buts it along the way I come home from work, and I have a lot of fun on this exit. On my new Eibachs, I can take this ramp at 60 and not squeak a tire. Nice lateral G's.

I actually just got home from doing this course. It in fact is really smooth the whole way, no intersection turns. The section of the Dan Ryan under construction is a problem however. But LSD didn't have as many stop lights as I first thought.
ahh lower waker....my boyfriend has some awesome vids of some sweet drives through there....nice for cars set for autoX! you mentioned where i live and go to school....aw my homeland...hahaha. anyways, daley is putting in like disco lights and **** in the tunnels, etc. on lower waker to "spice it up" hahaha
Lower Wacker is sweet except for a few stoplights that come right after a turn. Those suck. The "twisties" and overall closeness of the road keeps it fun. I think there should be a modification, however, to include a stretch of the sharp turns on LSD. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
