They are the part of the exhaust between the header and cat-back. Generally the aftermarket ones are bigger with a higher flowing cat than stock, or you can get them without a cat. Basically just like a header or exhaust, they allow the engine to expell spent gas quicker.

Let me repeat myself, I didn't listen the first time, I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN

It doesn't look real hard.

Increase the amount of flow from the exhaust side of the motor.

Notice that the aftermarket is larger in diameter and more straight through in design.

Oh Doc, I forgot to ask you something about the tune today. What is the rev-limiter set at? I could swear I took it up to 7500 without hitting it.

Sorry I'm new to the whole modding of cars. I'm learning slowly but learning ... so how does it work... if I were to upgrade my header and exhaust, would a down pipe help?

Absolutely, it is one more piece to the exhaust puzzle. With it you would have a truely complete exhaust.

ok I think I got it the down pipe goes from the header to the exhaust system, but since the tubing is a bit wider it allows more air flow. Ok now my next question is will the exhaust tone sound different, due to more air flow? And are there any performance gains from using a down pipe?

A cat-back will make the biggest difference in the sound of the exhaust system. I believe there are small gains to be had with a downpipe, but you have to look at the big picture. The down pipe if not replaced would be the big restrictor in a set-up that has everything else.

Doc, Next time we meet up, I want to swap on your pulley so we can check the fitment with the machining we did. I hope to god I don't ever have to see or use that tool again!!!

Are you sure the fan didn't come on? It could be a stuck thermostat.

use the interceptor to find out what the code is.
you can clear it after you find out what it is.
that is one major benefit of the interceptor.....

i believe around 225~230' the fan turns on. when that dam raccoon damaged my radiator my car hit 250' and the temp light came on. i have been told that are cars do ten to run hot though.
btw now it looks like i might have to wait until thurday to get my car. the dealership will go get it monday. but they still have to get the car inspected, GM certified washed and vacuumed( if needed) before i get the keys. now why thursday? because thats my next day off from walmart. have off monday, but i doubt it will be ready then! hate this waiting crap....
