Moving to Michigan! Help?

Hey guys! So I just accepted an offer with, lets say a pretty well known powertrain engineering company as an engine calibration engineer in Farmington Hills MI. I'll be moving out there in late June, so I'm kind of just looking for advice about the area. Good places to live, good places to eat, any car meets/clubs/forums of the local area? Would love to meet up with some fellow cobalts too!

I'm looking at a couple houses to rent in Ypsilanti. Good area?

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated!

My brother lives up there... a good place to try food wise is bagger Dave's in Plymouth I want to say... or around there I think..

A good bar/restaurant to check out is the box bar, can't remember exactly where it is but they got a long long list of "exotic" beers....

Dislike the Michigan left's....

I have an idea where you accepted.

Farmington HIlls itself is pretty nice. Ypsi is eh.. It's close to Ann Arbor, which is nice, but Ypsi itself is okay. Ypsi is decent in parts.. just need to choose the right area. Any other areas you're looking at?

I'm about 30-1 hr from that surrounding area.

Anytime a place doesn't have Michigan Left's, I'm like wtf is this ****? I like MI lefts.

Lots of good places to eat.

Local forum would be xceedspeed. Woodward as well, which is gonna get crazy soon.

If you have facebook, join MISSN and Motor City Deltas groups.

Thanks for the responses guys!

I'm mainly looking in Ypsilanti because a couple friends are going to grad school in Ann Arbor and that would be halfway for both of us. But as long as its within like 30 min of Farmington Hills I would consider it.

I'll check out those local forums, thanks man!

I'm actually also heavily looking into a 335i for a daily too. I'm gonna PM you

Yeah I'll be moving out June 20-something. I'm down to cruise if you guys want to!

And I know it's surprising but I actually think I'm gonna hang on to the cobalt and turn it into the "fun" car. I'm still piecing together everything for a pretty strong motor for it but a full time job will certainly help speed that along, would love to have it done this summer.

I know we talked about this in pm... 335i gets my vote, but I am biased.
For anyone else wondering, I also cross shopped the gen 1 cts-v, g8 gxp, and evo x.. but BMW makes a really great luxury sports sedan

Eh I'm used to driving in shitty winters, anything becomes easy with decent winter tires.

I'll be using it as a daily for at least a year, then probably put a huge turbo on it and make it stupid. A cts-v turbo just sounds so awesome tho

just take a look at fastgti69's thread to see how much power you can make on a stock n54 engine with a single turbo.. and he's still dialing it in. not sure if you can do that with the ls6(?) can't beat a v8 sound tho.

Have fun. The weather is all rainy right now.

Royal Oak is just down the street from me, and Southfield a bit farther. Both nice places.

Ypsi ranges from meh to shithole. I'd rather be closer work; 1hr+ of driving a day gets tiresome.

I do agree with that!
I drove from Kalamazoo to New Buffalo and back every day for about 6 months
Idk how people travel an hr+ every day for yrs!
Plus it puts sooooo many more miles on the car…

Lol thanks for the help guys! So my buddy got a job at Delphi in Warren so we looked at a couple places in royal oak/oak park/southfield area. Found one with a three car garage but the place is kinda small.

But yeah Nick for sure! Would love to meet up with the delta guys out there, considering I know about 5 people in the entire state lol

3 car garage...droool

if it's you and a buddy you probably don't need more than 1000 sq ft (+ basement)
