ohios tuner car laws
Hey im sure most of us in ohio know our state laws, but for those who dont know it is illegal to have red, white, or blue underglow witch sucks because the only colors of underglow sold at auto zone (for example) are red or blue, im sure you can already see the irony with that. ohio has no problem with aftermarket wings as long as it does not obstruct your view however be carfull in the city of cleveland, there is a city law that says "no motor vehicle shal be equiped with an wing" witch is messed up because the majority of cars come with wings from the factory. I am curently trying to fight a case about neon frames because the state law says you have to have a white lite illuminating your licence plate, I have a neon plate frame it has a purple glow however im hoping i get out of it due to the technicality that it is not a purple lite it is a white lite with purple tint. tell me what you all think about that and if you know any laws in ohio i did not mention put them up because knowing the laws is a great way to save money witch could be used for bills food other stuff but mostly car parts and services.
dont be a ricer. take the glow stick off your license plate.
Also, I've never been harassed about my wing. I drive my SS/SC in cleveland, akron, canton, and pittsburgh almost weekly. PA has much more stringent laws regarding modifications than Ohio does and I never had problems. I'm in PA on a daily basis too. I live on the border.

While you are correct about the white liscence plate law, this is a direct quote from the law book about underglow
"Lights must not rotate, oscillate, or flash, but state law does not prohibit the use of colored neon lights under your car as long as they do not interfere or blind other drivers.
Ohio Revised Code, section 4513.17 prohibits flashing lights on motor vehicles with the exception of emergency vehicles, turn signals, and hazard flashers.
As long as the neon lights are less than 300 candle power they are not in violation of any State law. If the lights are more than 300 candle power they must be directed to strike the pavement the vehicle sets upon at a distance of no more than 75 feet. The lights can not exceed 500 candle power. Colored lights, such as neon lights around a license plate, could be illegal if the light illuminates the plate and changes the colors of the plate. State law requires a white light to illuminate the rear license plate."
besides, i've asked the officer at my school before about my blue neons inside my car and he told me the exact same thing, as long as they don't flash, you're fine.

I think the license plate law is total bunk too. Okay, during the day you wouldn't even see the neon--the plate would keep its color. No problem there. At night, your (the person behind you) headlights would illuminate the plate anyways. Guess what color headlights are? White. If headlights can light some 500ft in front of you, I'm pretty sure they would provide far more light than those tiny light bulbs on the back of the car. Good luck with your fight though.
