SE MI Stage II Anyone ?

ok... so the time is nearing to get my stage II. Where/What dealership would you recommend I get it from? or to have it installed? My dealership told me that it's going to cost me $750 plus labor (which they didn't even know how long nor how much it would cost, I'm assuming cause my dealership that I bought my car from has never installed a stage II on these cars yet). I have to buy it before they even order it and plus its on back order. No ETA on the back order. Plus if I don't order it through them then they said it would void my warranty, even if they istalled it. WTF ???

I thought I could buy it anywhere and as long as they installed it I would be covered under warranty??

I wanted to buy it outside of the dealership so I could buy the 2.7 ppully and put it in the box so they would install that one instead of the one that comes with the kit.

Anyone in SE MI have a dealership they would recommend getting the install done? and do I really HAVE to buy it thorugh GM in order to still be covered under warranty? I just think my dealership is trying to keep me from buying it cheaper so they can make the money.

I know I would, but will GM still warranty my car if I dont order it throught the dealership? If so... I need to know what dealership I can go to that will install it even though I didn't buy it from them.

What if I did buy it online then go to my dealership to have it installed, even after they tell me it wouldnt be warrantied... how would I debate this?

ANY dealer will. the prices are just different. the dealers here want 4.5 hours but njbluess's dealer in nj only wants 2.

order the kit from gmpartsdirect and when you get it go to a different dealer and have them install it.

a good idea to do first is to e-mail the service dept at the dealer you want to install it and ask them the install time on part number (stage I , or Stage II)

they will e-mail you back the actual time since they don't care if service makes money. then print that out and take it with you, so your dealer can't tell you it takes 4 hours.

gmpartsdirect quotes $709 for the kit. I thought I would be able to get it around $650 online?

Also.. If I changed the pully to a 2.7 and included it with the kit do you think any dealership would be able to tell?

i think most people are only able to fit a 2.8 without sanding the snout? i could be wrong, but a 2.7 on that tune may not be the hottest idea either....

2.7, 2.8 I guess it dont matter. I don't know much about performance anyhow.

So... I got a quote from my dealership, they finally got back with me on the labor. $930 installed out the door. Includes parts, labor and taxes. I guess thats not a bad price eh ??

I got my Stage 1 from Underwood Chevrolet for $375 and $130 for install. Not sure what they'd charge for Stage 2. Call parts and ask for Rob. Kind of a far drive but it may be worth it.

If you want to get it online here is stage 2 for $637.50

Just called them. They quoted me 3 hours. ~$200 labor, I asked if I had to buy it from them they told me no as long as the parts are the exact GM stage II parts.

My question is... Do you think I'd get away with swapping the 3" pully for a 2.8" pully ? Do you think they would notice a difference?

I would just let them install all the parts that come with the stage 2 kit and then put the 2.8" pulley on yourself. It's really easy, all you have to do is take off the belt and remove 4 bolts to put the 2.8" on. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself I'll give you a hand. I'm in Shelby Twp so it's not to far from you.

I thought about that but I thought you have to reflash the comp when you put the smaller pully on ?

No you don't have to reflash the computer, it gets reflashed when the dealership installs the S2 kit. The 2.8 isn't much smaller than the 3 so you don't need a seperate flash for it.

I would keep the 3" on, from my 2.9 to 2.7 there is a different tune, not much, but it would be a good idea to get a tune for the 2.8

i say keep the 3" for now, your car will run better since the tune is for the 3"

I disagree, many people are running down to a 2.7 on the GM tune and have no problems. The computer has the ability to read the amount of airflow you have and adjust the tune accordingly. Sure, you may get more power in you get a custom tune, but it is not needed.

If you are talking about the Intense tunes the difference between the one for the 2.7 and 2.9 is because the 2.7 pulley needs larger injectors. The tune for the 2.7 and 2.5 pulleys is the same.

Al Serra in Grand Blanc has some GMPP coupons on their website (www.alserra.com) for 10% off all parts until the end of the month and if you apply for a Car Care One Card and use it, you will get another 10% off the whole bill (incl. labor). They had a Stage II kit there that someone ordered and did not pick up, so I got it for $600. By then end of everything, it was about $950 out the door (without any discounts).
