My street/track review of WOT box

Ok so I had the box in with V2.3 firmware on it yesterday and got a pretty good impression of the box. First off, at 2,400 i can get it too hook pretty well on street tires. Now the track part.

1000 FOOT TRACK

This was on 18 inch BFG dr's. Started with the 2step at 2,600, hit hard then bogged. 2,800, hit hard then bogged. 3,000 hit hard, then started a light spin, stuck with this. Oddly enough, all of these runs were 2.1 60's. Not great, but it def. showed potential. Best I managed was a 2.07, with the box at 3,000 and a very quick clutch release. I could have easliy reached 2.0 or below, but after the initial hit the car would start a light hop/ wheel spin. Could have been track conditions, or the spring spacers i wasnt used to (after watching vids, they need to be extended more, still squating), so I will just keep woking on that.

However, something was really off with my traps in the front half of the track. All night they were 3-4 mph slower than usual. I went back and looked at nearly identical 60 foots, and all my times from last night are 3-4mph off and 1-3 tenths off. Almost like the car was pulling timing on the front half because of the boost so low or something. Really weird stuff. At first I figured the timers may have been off, but then everyone else's were dead on what they usually are. Any reason the computer would be pulling timing or reducing power for some reason?

Nearly all my times in the 2.11 and lower area are 11.0-10.9 passes, and i couldnt get below an 11.1 all night. It wasnt just the air though because my times in the back half were what they should have been.

Also, I had the WOT shift set on Auto and the shifts seemed really slow on video, so on the way home i turned it onto the fastest setting and it SEEMED to be faster.

Overall im very happy with the box, and it is insanely easy to program at the touch of a button. However, I really need to find out why my times were suffering so much on the front half.

Here are all the slips, im car 8014, missed 2-3 on 5th pass-

And here is the video from the night, car sounds NASTY from up front-

probably cause of scott kalitta's crash

the nhra changed the tracks for the top fuel cars to 1000ft instead of 1320. i dunno why it would effect other cars though, it was supposed to be for top fuel cars.

no no no, its only 1000 foot and has always been that way. way back in the day NHRA was already considering going to 1000 foot tracks, so there are a few around. it has stayed that way for insurance and space reasons. no 1/4 tracks in AR, now back on topic

yea NHRA reduced it to 1000 ft l;ast week. IHRA is still runnign 1320 as far as i know

goo to know that product is effective. now you gotta try it on the faster setting an see if there is a diff.

I would try to find out what the humidty was yesterday. Then find some of your other slips take the date and maybe you can look up what the weather was some where online. I remember you were traping really close to 99MPH and with it being really hot I can understand a mph or 2 but not as much as you lost.

i have only gone 99 once, but now that you say it, on some of the "faster" runs, my trap was only off about 2 mph in both the 1/8 and 1000, more testing seems to be needed. oh darn, more track time

One thing you might want to try is doing runs with the 2-step launch and without it. You may need to launch at a higher RPM to really make a difference. That might require slicks. I'll let Jay comment more on this. I've never 2-step launched a car at the track, but Jay does it all the time...

Also, you should easily be able to tell if the no-lift shift is helping by doing a run with no-lift shifting and a run with regular shifting. There should be a big difference.

oh i did, and my times were pretty much dead on

i def. like the product alot though. i see my times becoming MUCH more consistent and my R/T's being pretty low.

after looking back on it, this is the worst air ive run in this year. so it may be a premature thing to assume that its killing me downlow.

in all honestly phrozen, it took me probably 3-4 passes before i was comfortable with taking my eye off the tach in the staging area. it takes alot of trust in a product, and i have it in the box now. makes my staging procedure WAY less complicated-

before-
burnout
pre stage
raise revs to 3k
bump car into staging
ebrake
check revs

after-
burnout
prestage
stage
lay foot on floor

after FTW

Cool. I noticed from watching the vid that you are supercharged, so there probably won't be huge time gains for you. The gains will be more of consistency and ease of shifting. Plus the shifts should be easier on your transmission...

So, it might take some practice and making the comparison runs on the same night to be able to see the difference with an SC car.

this will most benefit those with a turbo. supercharged cars probably won't get any faster times from this, or if they do, it will most likely be pretty minimal. i'm sure the launch control is easier once you get used to it though, so maybe it will help with more consistant 60's

the consistency has already proved itself. 4-6 runs were less than a 1/10 apart. and one of the ones not was a missed shift

a few more times with the box set low and you will be back ahead of what you were before.the the sc car you still want it quick even though you instantly have boost you still want to keep the car from transfering weight between shifts its easy to burn them on streets.its hard to compare it right now because you just started doing something completely different than what you are used to.as far as consistency though....thats awesome that you laid down all within a tenth..for a manual trans thats impressive

thanks man, and yea now that ive been reflecting on the runs. i will really need better weather to guage my times. love the box though! i dont have have to worry about the weight transfer with the spring spacers though
