Not sure if this is the right place to post this up, but i am thinking of Trading an 04 jeep wrangler for a 09 Cobalt SS

2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS---*TRADES* MAKE $ OFFER


The current owner says it has had several different owners over the years, and it was totaled at one early on point due to a front end collision that took out the Bumper, Lights and Inter-cooler.

Other than that it has no known issues, will need tires before the winter sets in.

I've looked, KBBs are about equal. Any thoughts on this? Anything I should look out for?

i would ask him for the vin so you can see the carfax and try to figure out the reason for the rebuilt title.

When you say several.. do you mean like 2 or do you mean like 6?

If it's anymore than 3 I'd be skeptical, just for the fact that they all probably bought it, found the problems, and sold it without passing on what's wrong with it.

 

Some bastard totaled a TC sedan, what a monster! But definitely find out the cause of it being totaled and if the seller has the paperwork from the repair. If everything checks out, I would definitely pull the trigger on that trade.

I'll know for sure once the carfax comes through. He said he'll send the VIN this evening.


Is there any other stuff i should look for? any tell tale signs to be aware of? I do all my own repairs and maintenance, so i'm pretty handy with cars, but not a master tech either. I don't see too many repeat issues on the threads here, which is a good sign..

 

What does TC stand for?

I talked to the owner and he said it was because the intercooler was damaged and had to be replaced. He could be lying, but it sounds plausible. Carfax is on the way so I'll hopefully get more detail from that. He doesn't have any paperwork for the repairs tho, as it happened to one of the previous owners.

 

TC stands for Turbo charged.

08-10 Cobalt SS's were Turbo from factory, AKA SS/TC
05-07 Cobalt SS's were Supercharged from factory. AKA SS/SC

My primary goal is to trade vehicle for vehicle without having to pay additional cash. I am not sure i could swing that with the one you listed, but I'll look in to it.

I won't let my desire to trade without cash blind me though, Based on responses here i could make out OK on this deal, or it could be really really bad... Hopefully that carfax will shed some light. I might just have to pass this up and wait for something else to come along.

How hard are they to remove? lol

 

They are called Vortex generators.

Crash that totaled it happened when the car was about 1 year old.

Since then, the Hazard light switch, BCM, Sunroof Switch, Rear Brakes, Ignition Lock Cyl, and Door Handle/Sway Bar Links have been replaced.

Based on this carfax, I am not too worried about the condition of this car. It looks like BCM was likely replaced when trying to fix the sunroof...hey were replaced at the same time. the only thing that is a little troubling is the Ign Lock Cyl replacement...

What do you guys think?

i dont know why it was issued a salvaged title, it doesnt show it being in an accident prior the only accident was 10/24/09, and then on 1/3/12 it was issued a salvaged title?????

 

maybe an accident not reported to carfax or flooding

 

i dont see how an accident couldnt have been reported since in order to make an insurance claim you would have to have a police report and all police reports are updated to carfax (from my knowledge-especially here in indiana). also i could see the flood part if all those electronics were being replaced, but those were all replaced before the salvage title was issued

 

Stay away from the red sedan in epson, that bitch is mine this weekend. Trading my white SS for it hopfully!
