F23 question

Hi, My name is jacob thanks for adding me to the group. I have a question about my cobalt. I have a 2006 Cobalt SS with the 2.4 its a 5 speed manual with the F23 getrag trans. My second gear keeps popping out so I am going to buy a used trans and slap it in but i can not find the answer is the 2.2 and 2.4 cobalt f23 the same transmission or are the gear ratios different? Thanks

It is the same transmission and I'm pretty sure the only Cobalt with different gear ratio was the XFE with a shorter final drive. Even if the Cobalt 2.2 was a slightly different gear ratio you could still use it.

I didn't realize the non-boosted SS came with the F23. I thought all the manual cobalts where F35's.

The F23 Opt M86 5 Speed trans came on the 2.2 & 2.4 Cobalt's.

The F23 five speed, 1st: 3.58 2nd: 2.02: 3rd: 1.35 4th: 0.98 5th: 0.69 R: 3.31 Final Drive: 3.94 & XFE Final Drive 3.63

Hope that helps.

Was that the same for the later 4-door manual super sports (2.4's)?

Yes. The 2.4L Cobalt with the "SS" moniker was produced from 2005-2007 in both coupe and sedan versions with either the F23 or 4T45 transmission. In 2008 the 2.4L Cobalt was then renamed to "Cobalt Sport" with the same drive train from the 2005-2007 2.4L models. This was due to the introduction of the turbocharged SS sedan in 2008.
