Howdy

I dont have a cobalt, but thought I'd check out a forum or two to see if I can get some more insight on the cobalt ss, whether the TC or SC model. Ive always liked them, and the thought has crossed my mind to get one as a daily as my work commute just became ridiculously long. I will probably ask a question or two in the appropriate subforum, so any advice is greatly appreciated in advance.

What would you like to know? This site is obviously going to be a little biased towards the cobalt haha.

I drive about 450 miles a week. 30 mpg would be fine for me and enough improvement over my other car to justify it. I'm not extremely worried about gas mileage though. I just want something to put the miles on and a fun little car to drive. I believe I might see a bit more than that because its nearly all highway miles. Well, I've been looking for a nice daily, probably higher mileage, and wanted any information on things to look for above say.....80k miles or so. Decided to look at cobalt SS because I'm a GM guy and want to keep it in the family. Im curious about the reliability. I do literally 95% highway driving and its a long commute so I will add miles quick.

Oh if I got one it would be an SS for sure. I'm just curious regarding the reliability once the miles get up there, what to look for, etc. I will probably be looking for an unmodded one specifically.

Yo! Wassup? Keeping it real. Ive found a couple threads regarding reliability that seem like good info. Any other words of wisdom, feel free to throw my way.

Ehh pretty much its all the usual upkeep mumbo jumbo, man. i don't know of many high mileage ss-tcs since they are so new, i've heard of a few high mileage sc's still kicking around.

one thing about highway commuting is, you are tacking 3k around 70 mph in 5th gear. which seems a little high to me for extended periods of time. wish these cars had a 6th gear

i mean, the cars love high rpm dont get me wrong... and i get 30-35 hwy on my ss/sc

Yeah, Id honestly probably keep it around 60-65, and I wont really mind it. A 6th gear would be cool though. My other slow pile of junk is a 6 speed and turns like 2k at 70 mph lol, so it would probably take some getting used to. But, I digress. 30-35 mpg is pretty good and I'm sure I'd see that with a 95% highway commute.

I'm curious on preventative and common maintenance to these.

Thanks. Been doing a bit of googling! Seem like easy cars to work on as well. I think I just need to find an unmolested, unmodded one with good history. Whats a rough average price range for a SC or TC one, both lower and higher miles? Ive seen a few for sale online that seem a bit cheaper than the ones on here..

What up? Pretty much if you take care of it, it'll take care of you. Little things make all the difference in reliability.

I can't say much about high mileage reliability as mine is only at 37K, but when you say you are "looking for an unmodded one specifically" bear in mind that 9 out of 10 of these cars are brought back to stock before they are sold or traded. Just check out all the "back to stock" threads n the classified section...
It may be harder than you think to be sure it was never modded...

not that mods really take away the reliability, its more how the car was treated and kept up with. but i digress.

7-10k is good for a good sc car

11-13 is good for a good tc car

around me anyway
