Hello, I have a stock daily driven 2005 Chevy Cobalt. I’ve been having some issues losing power after 3k rpm and normally when I floor it. It’s normally from 2nd-5th gear. Some people tell me to change my clutch and flywheel and some tell me it’s my pas pedal sensor or my mass air flow sensor. What would be the best option or has anyone had this issue?

 

Which engine? Is your check engine light on and if so have you pulled the codes. If you have let us know what codes are active. We need significantly more information before we can even attempt to make an educated guess. As far as your peer diagnosis a flywheel or clutch won't make you lose power after 3k rpm. Your clutch could possibly slip at that point which would be indicated by the rpms raising without proportional increase in wheel speed. So if you give it power and it all the sudden seems to slip and raises rpm without increasing speed, that would be a clutch slipping. If it was your accelerator pedal sensor you should have engine codes tripped and would probably be in limp mode.

It’s a 2.0 supercharged. I actually don’t have the check engine light on.

 

What does the boost gauge read during the scenarios when you are losing power?

 

Mine did something similar (but not exaclty) around 135k miles, but threw a CEL along with the engine power reduced warning. For my case, It was a bad throttle body.

Your car needs to throw the CEL to find the issue. You have any videos of it acting up?
