Bro slow down.

Just leave the factory computer and get either hptuners or efilive. Way easier than trying to connect and remap a stand alone ecu.

Yes what are you trying to accomplish by removing the stock ECM? Or what is your ultimate goal and why is the stock ECM standing in your way?

If you remove the stock PCM, then you have to remove the stock BCM. If you're making an endurance racer, that's really not that big of a deal... but you will lose functionality of just about everything useful inside the car. Again, not a huge deal if you're making a race car, but it's something to keep in mind. Radio, instrument cluster, power steering are all useless without the BCM. There are a few other things too, but I think the last two are the most important.

Beyond that, any standalone that works well with GM's would be advisable since it'll help with the plug and play aspect of using GM sensors.

But honestly, you're most likely creating a headache for yourself as you won't be gaining a lot of extra control, but you'll be spending a lot of time and money in the process.

EDIT: and an '05 SS is already pretty simplified in the engine bay. Remove the A/C, remove the EVAP stuff, and beyond that, there isn't a ton of useless electronics or systems on our engine.

need more help

i have removed the interior ,air bags, dash steering column,i gutted it put a roll cage in it,and we have multiple drivers just trying to make it user friendly and so i dont have much to worry about when it track time so if i can get a pcm that controls the engine and transmission i believe it will pay off in the long run

Did it run when you started?
Does it run now?

I'd look at AEM stuff. There's always piggyback systems like Megasquirt. FAST makes LSx stuff, I believe, but I don't know that there would be any compatibility with our engine. The GM Build Book gives some insight into aftermarket PCM's, iirc, but it's been a long time since I looked through it or paid much attention to it.

Really though, what's wrong with stock PCM? HPTuners gives access to plenty of usable tables. What are you looking to control or do that the stock PCM with HPTuners wouldn't be able to accomplish?

Also, you aren't going to get much insight for a stand alone PCM on this forum - I don't know of anyone that has ever made the switch. There is no plug-and-play system for Cobalts that I'm aware of; it's just not something that we've needed to worry about. Stock PCM is quite sufficient.

Trevor Jolly did a rewire standalone for Foximus, it was not an easy process or quick. He only did it because it was a 06 L61 so no tuning options other than trifecta
