Cool New Balt owner turned to the Dark Side from Honda.

I used to be a Honda guy, had 5 92-96 Honda Preludes. My Mom bought an 05 LT Cobalt 4 door and my like of Cobalts started there. Got tired of blowing up Ludes street racing and when I went after a new car, an 06 SS SC ended up being it. I looked at 13 other cars but price, availability and mpg with power all came to the Balt. I've had it since July, 2012. It has a horrible background story before I got a hold of her. She'd been wrecked (no frame damage) and parted out of the good SS features for money. I've slowly been bringing her back to glory. Replacing broken or missing stock parts and fixing the engine/tranny. It had 65k hard miles put on it. I'd list everything I've fixed and replaced but that would be a big list. Lol.

I'm in the Gulf Coast of Mississippi region. A friend of mine is already on this site and showed it to me. Has the exact same car I do. I'm a Service Technician at a Chevy Dealership, have been for 2 years now. I've left my engine stock and I'm focusing on the looks of my car first, then I might play with the engine but nothing drastic. She's my DD.

Welcome to the forum.

Which dealership do you work at? I work in Gulfport and live in Wiggins. We used to have a HUGE organized ecotec group here in South Mississippi back in 08-09. Now, it's just my brother-in-law and I. He still has his same old 06 SS/SC. I sold mine a couple years ago and bought an 09 SS Sedan in March of this year.

The Asylum. Haha. I work at Preston Hood in Biloxi and live in Gautier. The only guy I actually know personally that has an SS is my boy Richard. His is yellow, 06 SS. When I go to work tomorrow I'll use photo bucket. Left my laptop up there. My Balts a lil busted at the moment and under construction. Lol.

I used to know Richard back in the day. Ask him if he remembers Trey with the other yellow ss/sc. I still see him in Ocean Springs from time to time.

What all needs fixing/replacing on yours?

Nice man... glad to see you restoring it. How does the exhaust sound and what brand is that?

When I first got it I spent all of my time replacing all the little stuff like trim and panels. I got a new hood and my new trunk (spoilerless and holeless) is being painted right now. Trying to get rid of those god awful stripes it had on it. Getting them off the roof is the next step before I paint the whole car again. Replaced a fender that was bent up also. I had to get new headlights and it was sadly cheaper to get a pair of aftermarket headlights rather than get 1 stock headlight from work. It had, as you can kinda tell in the pictures, the stock LS seats. That nasty grey. I bought the Recaro Bucket seats and the leather rear seat off ebay and put them in. I'll post that picture when I get my phone to act right again. The stock radio harness was butchered and the stock amp for the Pioneer System package was gone too so I had to reroute all the wiring and make it so I could even put a radio in it. I have an aftermarket Doubled-In touchscreen in it now. Subwoofer was gone too so I put in my own. Now I'm working on wheels and tires to get rid of the steelies. Oh, and the trim on the dash and doors is mismatched. Deciding on going to the dark grey or putting the red painted trim that was in it when I got it back in.

The exhaust sounds great, it's a lot louder than I want but it's already got a silencer so I can't shut it up. Lol. I'll have to go look at it again, it was a brand I hadn't heard of before.

Edit; Oh and the GM Performance Clutch too cuz it went out a month after I bought it.

Is it really an SS? Unless someone swapped the wheel hubs, it's got 4 bolt wheels... thought that was only base models.

When it was wrecked, for some reason, they put 4 lug hubs on it AND changed the rear cross member to the 4 lug drums. All from an 05 LS. I don't know why.

Edit; And unfortunately unless I find a wrecked SS, I can't put the 5 lug hubs and discs back on the rear. The cross member has the Caliper bracket welded to it so I can't just put a bracket on my rear cross member.
