i recently just got an 06 Cobalt SS. Unfortunately it’s not and sc/manual. It’s has the 2.4 in it. Although it is pretty quick, I’d like it to be faster. I would like suggestions, or guidance in helping me do that. Not very knowledgeable on how to go about modding autos.
Welcome. The easiest way to add a bit of power IMO is to source a used M62 in decent condition as well as all the supporting mods. Then tune it and you should be good for 230 horsepower or more depending on what fuel you want to run and whether or not you want to mess with methanol injection. You could also go turborcharged which some would argue is just as easy though I can't attest to that as I don't have experience with it.

I would definitely argue that boosting a 2.4 that you already have is more cost effective than selling it and buying an SS/SC. Easier? No. But it is cost effective if you do the work yourself. The hardest part is compiling all the right parts.

Auto's as in automobiles or automatic transmissions?
I like the Auto in my Cobalt and if I had the choice to have a 5 speed manual I would keep the auto.

I also don't have an automatic nor am I familiar with them.
I would take a six speed manual over an auto but tuning an auto is more fun for me than having a manual. Next up if I can scramble my 4T45E is a race build 4T46E.

By getting carried away I meant insinuating the 4-speed slush box in these things is superior to the 5-speed manual. I don't doubt that you prefer automatics. Only way I would want an econobox automatic is if it was my daily driver and i spent a lot of time in traffic. They are also great for towing rigs as backing up and doing precise maneuvering with a heavy load is much easier not having to modulate a clutch. And I don't think you have to worry about scrambling your transmission unless you go TVS or Turbo. It should take anything you can throw at it with that M62.
I do love the 5 speed in my car. However, I still think there is no substitute for a beef'd up auto in a drag car. High stall converter and a shift kit (I know it's an electronic update of pressure now).
Brings me back to the days of a big block, TCI 727 transmission, and an 8 3/4" rear
I prefer autos for drag racing all day but for a street car that does highway rolls, manual all day long. Doing rolls with this 4 speed is boring and isn’t that great. The gears are long and It basically just eats up power because of the torque converter. That’s why if someone wants to race I says digs. If they give me my dig race I’ll give them their roll to be fair.
I would have put down 300whp at least when I had the m62 if I had a manual. I did 264whp and 266tq on a mustang dyno.
Edit: I originally misread your comment. I get now that you are saying the manual is more efficient for power transfer and not that you made so much power with the M62 that you risked blowing your automatic trans.

If we are talking ideal setups for drag racing we may as well write off FWD altogether. They can be setup to work well and I'm not saying they can't but they have an inherent disadvantage because of weight transfer.
We are not talking anything... you are. It was an opinion so Eco724 could know there's nothing wrong with a 2.4 Auto. There are already hundreds of Manual VS Auto threads.
What many of you may not know since you haven't tuned one is the auto can be setup with HP Tuners to shift as smooth as you want until you need a firm shift.

I didn't see where Eco724 or anyone else said/thought there was something wrong with the 2.4 auto. I just jokingly said you were getting carried away for saying it is preferable to the 5-speed manual in these cars. Of course that is just your opinion though I would argue it's not shared by many if any.

It's obvious you cannot read. That and your back peddling / Joking has caused more issues than I can count.
1. I never posted it is preferred or preferable to the 5 speed manual. I said, and I quote: "I like the Auto in my Cobalt and if I had the choice to have a 5 speed manual I would keep the auto." that was my personal opinion of my Cobalt. I had the Muncie 4 speed in my 66 GTO and the Muncie 4 speed in my 68 Corvette. Neither of which I would have wanted an Auto in.
2. This is what Eco724 posted. He used the word unfortunately rather than luckily. Therefore he sounded disappointed he did not have the manual.

He can supercharge the 2.4 and be very happy with a tuned Auto.
