New Cobalt SS owner here, I already have a stupid question

Ok, my wifes grandparents just gave us a mint 2006 Cobalt SS, it only has 25k miles because it sat in their garage for the last 6 years. They got too old to drive. My question is, it's an automatic (I know, I know). I am not insanely car knowledgable so forgive me if this is a stupid question but the RPM gauge shows it can go to 8000RPM but I can't ever seem to get it past 4000 or so. Is that because it's an automatic or maybe not the supercharged SS? Did they make those? How can I tell? I Believe I have the 2.4l Eco engine. I did put some new halo projection headlights in today.

Put some new headlights in.

Your tach says that your redline is 6750rpm. You would have to punch it hard to get the auto to rev higher than 4k.

Idk if serious or just trolling... probably just a troll... how the F can u be driving n not even know where the redline is? Seriously... U really tried to rev it to 8k? My best advice is to sell it quick n buy a Honda Civic. Then u can rev the **** out of it all day.

Well all automatic cars are preset to automatically shift at 4000 to 5000 rpm u my friend happen to be one of the unfortunate few to be stuck with a naturally aspirated SS your best bet his to do a trans swap and a supercharger kit or Turbo kit depending on what floats your boat

OP, if you're revving in neutral or park, the ECU is probably limiting you to 4k.
If you're driving and you floor it, you will be able to go up to the redline - if not, something's wrong.

Then probably the VTEC didn't kick in
I mean the ECOtec didn't kick in...
