New to the forum, I just recently bought a 09 cobalt ss from my brother, has 152k on it and the k04 turbo decided it didn't want to spool no more, went to Virginia towed it home, found a good deal on a rebuilt k04, installed it and after first drive really thought the rings were toast, at idle and any boost under 10lbs It ran perfect, anything over 10lbs and on decel it would throw blue smoke out the exhaust. Did alot of test nothing out of ordinary so finally said f it and decided to do a wot pull, it peaked 23lbs ran at 20 smoke went away and been running great since, it has a few upgrades / mods zzp fender cold air, zzp/Dijon charge pipes, Hann intercooler ,zzp mail in tune. I'm sure the motor is tired, but plan on driving it for awhile until it goes or winter comes. Then going to dona rebuild. It does need a paint job and some other small things, but for a total of $1400 for car and rebuilt turbo definitely worth it. Got a lot to learn about the LNF engine.
I'm about an hour south of Pittsburgh, Uniontown, birth place of the big Mac lol. And yeah he had another ss identical to this one many years ago and when he took me for the first ride they hit me in my soft spot and wanted one since then. But having 3 younger kids the coupe wasn't practical and nothing against tgw sedan just didn't care to much for them, but now kids are older, brother gave me a hell of a deal. And it already has a very good start. At first my wife said "I don't get it it's only a cobalt, (she had a 06 ls) I said yep. Took her for a ride she said this is not just a cobalt.
