New guy looking for a SS/TC Sedan
New guy looking for a SS/TC Sedan
Hi everyone, I am not an SS owner just yet, but hope to be soon. I'm in the market for a 2009 SS Sedan with G85 package. Preferably low miles. I'm okay with basic mods as I plan to set up for autocross anyway. I'd appreciate any heads up on good cars for sale.
A little about myself. I lived in St. Louis through college and currently live in the Twin Cities. I'm married with two kids and grew up drag racing cars, boats, and motorcycles. First car was a tube chassis Triumph TR7 with a 331 SBC. Latest hot rod was a 1986 Trans Am with a 406 SBC and small shot of nitrous. Currently driving my old college car, a Civic LX, which I bought new in 2002. It'll be for sale after the SS purchase if anyone is interested.

I had a sport red tint '09 SS Sedan that I bought new and traded just over a year later. Wish I hadn't done that. They are hard to find now, especially in low miles and no mods. Good luck on your search though!
I personally love the SS/TC sedans but many people do not. It's definitely an acquired taste because most people prefer the sleeker look of the coupes. If I ever find the right one though, I'll be hard pressed not to buy it.
I think you'll find your car OP, you'll just need some patience.
Thanks everyone. I was definitely a little discouraged after my first search. There is one right near me but the car fax revealed a salvage title. The next one about two hours away turned out to be a lemon! Now I am looking nationwide but nothing is really speaking to me. I've had my current car for 12 years, what's a few more months, right?
welcome to the boards. When these cars were new, they were hard to find. I had no idea there were so few made when I found this one. I found out it was originally from Ohio and driven to the dealership in DE. Had 400 miles on the odometer. I complained about that but now it has 78k miles on it so not really much to complain about now lol. Love the car though. I plan to hold mine for another 2 years. I enjoy not having the car payment

I looked into the white one in BC, but it sold already, they just haven't taken it off the site yet.
I've got my eye on one in Virginia. No pictures yet as it's still being reconditioned. Fingers crossed.

Got it!
Well, I'm an owner. Flew to Virginia and drove it back to Minnesota this past weekend. 2009 Victory Red SS sedan with G85. One owner, no mods, all service records and window sticker, 42,000 miles, no problems in over 1000 mile drive back home. Pretty excited!
Nice, that's how it's done! When you find one with low miles and no mods - you have to move fast. The chances of finding another clean SS/TC sedan like that within 1000 miles is really low.
I did the same thing. I wanted an 09 SS/TC with low miles and no mods. Found one at a dealer in Alabama. So I flew to Alabama picked it up and drove back to NJ. Turned out to be a great decision. The car is great, no problems.
Best of luck with you new ride.

By the way, if the prior owner did not do the rear brakes yet, you will need to do them. You will need new rotors as well. The stock rotors get all grooved up. Known problem with the factory rear brake pads. Not a big deal, the parts are very reasonable.
Thanks guys. Dan G, thanks for the heads up on the rear rotors.
Funny story. I got pulled over in Chicago for doing 61 in a 55. The stop ended in a full on drug search with the K9 unit. After telling my story, the cop did not believe that I flew to Virginia just to pick up a Cobalt. He thought I was drug trafficking. After the search, they let me go with a warning. My wife thought it was funny because she doesn't understand what's so special about the car either.
I love it, though.

My wife thought I was nuts ... still does. You can't explain this - I didn't even try. Either you are into cars or you aren't. To me it's a no-brainer. You find a clean LNF car, low miles, no mods - the 1000+ mile road trip is a non-issue. The only question in my mind: what time can I leave.
