Talking New Member with a blown engine

Hellllo!
Alot of sick cars in here guys!

I just picked up a 2006 SS with what I think is a blown engine. Had in mind to build it for a fun project car, but you know how that goes. I appreciate all the great info in here. Seems like the engine may not be as bad as I think.. starts up and runs, just smokes and idles rough.
Might just let the whole care go cheap... not sure.
Ill keep looking around.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Did you know the car had issues when you bought it?

Go get the car scanned for codes and see what it pulls. Get a compression test. Post results.

I have a 2005 Chevy Cobalt 2.2. I was running good until a couple of days ago when I was coming to a stop, the engine died and i have no spark. I pulled the spark plugs out and they had some smell of fuel. I cleaned them up and installed them back. Could the crank sensor shut the power down to the coils?

Probably cracked pistons, common issue on modded supercharged cars that are poorly tuned or abused. Start with a compression check.

Yes, if the CKP fails the PCM no longer sees the engine rotating so it stops providing spark and fuel. It will batch fire the injectors one time to try and start the engine but if it can't see RPMs there will be no ignition. Check and see if the tach is showing 2-300 rpms while cranking or not. If it stays at zero it's likely a bad Crank Position Sensor, I've had to replace a couple on these cars, not a big or expensive job.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the future rebuild! Would be great, if you can share some pictures of your SS with us, when you have a chance. I'm sure you will find a lot of useful information here.
