My brother gave me a 05 SSSC, he replaced the CPS but didn't do a relearn. I attempted a relearn but was unsuccessful, I think the car has a tune would that affect relearn procedure? Any help is greatly appreciated
Let's get to the root cause of the situation - why was the CPS replaced? And for clarity, are you talking about the Crank Position Sensor or the Camshaft Position Sensor?
I wouldn't think you'd need a relearn for a replaced either sensor. I also have an 05 and I've never needed to do one, even after swapping ECU's or installing a different engine.
Tune wont effect the relearn procedure. The relearn procedure can be very temperamental, i spent over an hour one time trying to get a relearn done. It eventually worked, but was a pain. This was with hptuners, I forget why the relearn was needed though.

My brother has a bad habit of just throwing parts at ****, he changed the crankshaft and camshaft sensors due it throwing the code for crankshaft and camshaft variation. I can't remember the code number, I searched and searched and relearn is all I could find

Tried multiple times with a matco that I borrowed from a friend, I was thinking of buying hp tuners and some credits to see if I could figure it out. One time I start it, it's like normal. Next time it's crank and crank then throws a backfire, just trying to fix it correctly so I have a decent car

Okay, this has my attention. What this sounds like to me, is that the Hex Key used by the camshaft position sensor is not properly aligned inside the exhaust cam.
The question becomes... did he pull the whole CPS housing out or just the sensor when he changed it. It's not very easy to pull JUST the sensor out, but it is possible. BUT, the first question should be why did the code get thrown in the first place - was a timing kit done? Was a the CPS housing removed for some other reason? Fresh engine rebuild?
If both sensors have been replaced and the hex key is properly clocked inside the exhaust cam - then the timing chain is not timed correctly.
You can check the position of the CPS Hex by putting the engine at TDC (easiest way is to do it with the valve cover off, imo - then put the EXH cam marker at 10 o'clock, and the INT cam marker at 2 o'clock), pulling just the CPS sensor, and then sticking your finger in the hole to feel for a notch on the internal wheel.

I checked without removing valve cover, put #1 to tdc and verified the marks are lined up. He left a plug lose and it blew it out with the threads, pulled the head and had a zero cert installed. He thinks the exhaust cam is one tooth off, I would think it wouldn't run correctly if that was the case. Thanks for the assistance guys
