Proud owner of a 2009 Cobalt SS Turbocharged
Hey everyone I just PCS'd to Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson per the United States Air Force with my wife.
What a long strange journey it has been. I originally hail from up state New York but travelled to Myrtle Beach South Carolina at the tender age of 18. After 3 years we traveled over four thousand miles in my wifes SUV (Pontiac Torrent) from the East Coast and have finally begun settling in at our new home on base.
My wife just purchased a brand new Elantra GT Hatchback, its a six speed and she loves it even though she was very sad to see her Pontiac go. Lots of sentimental value there.
It had been a very reliable car that we never had to do very much maintenance on and it helped us make the trip with our dog and 4x8 UHAUL all the way through the Alaskan Highway and Great Britain but we were worried it would eventually start needing serious costly work and stress that we didn't feel like dealing with right now.
I also owned a 2006 Tiburon which had given me nothing but problems from the start. It had great torque but was offset by such a short 1st gear and I had been dumping money in to it left and right.
I was fortunate enough to find a dealership willing to take the vehicle on a trade and scored a very nice 2009 Rally Red Cobalt SS Turbocharged. It has only 25,000 miles on it and we got it for a great deal with a 40,000/4 Year warranty.
The car is currently sitting in the drive way right now soaking up the rain. Hopefully tomorrow the weather will clear up and I can snap some pictures of it and post them up here.
I will be keeping up to date on this website as well with any future modifications as I have never done that before. I figured it would be interesting to watch the vehicle grow and in turn reflect on how much I will grow as an individual as I learn more about the car and myself in the process.
I have never done any serious mechanical work aside from oil changes and brake pads and the like but I look forward to a fresh experience with a reliable vehicle that is both sporty and fun.
If anyone has any recommendations off the bat as far as modifications go or simple quick and easy tricks that I can do right in my garage that would be awesome and hey, thanks for having me guys! I'm very exited to be driving this car!

I couldn't resist so here are some pictures of my new ride. My wifes Elantra Gt is sitting cozy right next to it.

I already have some future mods in mind. I definitely want to plasti-dip the rims matte black and install a short throw shifter since those are always fun simple mods I can do right from home. Maybe somewhere along the line I will upgrade the lights to halogen as well but as far as performance goes it's pretty fast enough for my tastes already.
I will keep up with periodic updates for sure and let you all know where it goes. There are some nice spots for photo ops here in Alaska when the weather is nice.

Congrats and welcome. Plenty of info here. Imo I dont like the plasti dip rims idea. But you could use it to do evo mod and maybe pick up the retros Bass Waves is selling. I think they would set your car off nicely appearance wise. If you have a warranty and feel its fast enough for now, dont get a tune because the mod bug will take over and you can say bye bye warranty. These cars come alive with a good tune though so if that is an option, start off with gms1 so you keep your warranty.
