Timing issues

First off I wanna apologize for not posting in a while it’s been crazy between work and home.
I got a question and I need someone to help me with it. My car has been down for a week and a half but I know my timing is off. If the intake and exhaust cams are off timing how do you adjust them to get them back on timing? This is a 2.4L vvt timing chain? Please anyone that knows about timing.

These are interference motors so if the timing goes it is very common for a valve to hit the piston bending it. What symptoms is the car giving you now?

the symptoms is I can get the car to start at times but I’ll leave it idle and it will shut off automatically after about a minute. When it was running I didn’t have full power. It’s been parked since the issues started

You will need to reset the timing to above detail. Rotating engine around wont work. There is a shim on the crank sprocket you need to remove with a pick to reveal that timing mark. Dont forget to put it back on when you go to reassemble!

thank you that’s the answer I’ve been waiting for before I messed with it. I’ll be getting to it this weekend and seeing what the issue is and I’ll get back to you
