Nitrous Bottle Explosion(pics!)

I found this on the F-Body forum. A good reason to invest in saftey features, its worth it. Apparently the bottle blew just sitting in the sun. More info is here

i believe the f-body guy bought a bottle from some other guy. and this other guy had the bottle in his truck, but the truck cought on fire(which is why he sold the bottle). So im assuming the bottle was weakend from the truck fire, but this moron used it anyways.

also, myth-busters did a test on the "pressure valves" for fire extinguishers. they threw them into a fire, seeing if they would explode and put out the fire. 2 out of 3 worked.

iirc, something like a valve got stuck open
so mechanical failure, not improper installation

winner winner chicken dinner. blow down tube failure was the cause of this. this thread is over on ls1tech and IIRC is pretty old

mmmm I don't know if I believe either stories

not that I've ever seen a bottle explode but how the hell is there damage to both the front and back of the car + bumper damage? lol

also, I live in AZ and have had my bottle in the trunk in the middle of the summer and it is nowhere near the max pressure limit (this is 110 degree weather btw)...

i'd blame it on improperly heated bottle or leaving on the bottle heater without an auto shutoff switch (although usally the battery will die before then).

and a blowdown tube wont solve that issue, the pressure disc will still burst without a blowdown tube...the tube just routes it out of the car instead of spraying all over the inside of your vehicle.
