Nitrous Bottle Explosion(pics!)
The nitrous bottle metal was weakened by a fire so it could only take so much pressure till the metal cracked under stress. This is not where a rupture disc goes because the bottles structural integrity was weaker then the disc. So instead of the pressure disc going and just spraying into the trunk the actual bottle it self exploded. Think of it like 5 hand grenades going off in the trunk of your car because that is the equivalent of what happened.
no crap, 1,300psi and the safety valve better be open.
A torch just sounds retarded.
I have a pressure regulated bottle warmer: On @ <900psi, off @>950psi.

the pics of the maxima are like 100 years old. He had it wired wrong (heater would still work with the key off) basically operator error! morons ftl! I dunno about the F-body case but because I can honetly say I have experience using nitrous....this isnt something that happens everyday to tons of people so therefore it leads me to believe that usually caused by negligence or stupidity or a combination of both.

thats exactly why i posted this thread, i plan on going nitrous myself. but make sure you do it the right way or else. this is more of a learning experience, learn from other peoples mistakes is all. this isnt a "dont do nitrous because this will happen!" so learn to comprehend.
mmmm I don't know if I believe either stories
not that I've ever seen a bottle explode but how the hell is there damage to both the front and back of the car + bumper damage? lol
also, I live in AZ and have had my bottle in the trunk in the middle of the summer and it is nowhere near the max pressure limit (this is 110 degree weather btw)...
i'd blame it on improperly heated bottle or leaving on the bottle heater without an auto shutoff switch (although usally the battery will die before then).
and a blowdown tube wont solve that issue, the pressure disc will still burst without a blowdown tube...the tube just routes it out of the car instead of spraying all over the inside of your vehicle.

The Maxima pics are old as hell. like 7 years. and it was caused by the bottle heater being left on for hours.
The Firebird appears to have a faulty bottle. all nitrous bottles are required to come equipped with a safety disk that ruptures at 1300psi, well below the rating of the tank, and safely bleed off pressure
I comprehend very well which is why I like many others have years of safe nitrous experience and I also comprehend that you are creating paranoia over something that already has a bad enough reputation to the point that people are afraid to try it because of reasons like this thread.
I run nitrous in my street legal car. Works awesome to the tune of low nines in a street driven car.
I had 3 bottles re-certified. They hydro test them to 3500 psi. Even in the sun, that bottle would never get near that pressure.
If the bottle was in a fire, it was weakened.
Shame on the guy who bought it, and shame on the shop that filled it, unless the guy filled it himself, then double shame on him!
Easy to get killed that way!
Nitrous is safe (to the user, not always the engine) when used properly.
