Dan, 7-7:30ish in Monroeville? Time is a lil flexible, we're just moving furniture around.

Eh, I don't know, I don't think it should be TOO bad. Usually starts clearing out around 6.

I think that you have to hone the cylinders if you use new rings. At least the build book states that.

On a plus note I backed into a van today and pushed my bumper around the plate area in. Now I got a nice crease a set of dents and a few scratches to go along.

Hahaha, no, well false alarm, just moving Wes' computer over, still no furniture to put it on. This is NOT going to be a fun project, my house is already packed as it is.

BTW pictures of the piston and such will be posted as soon as the **** technology in this house works.

Well I am just gonna toss the new pistons and rings in, hope for the best. Honing = FTL

So you're NOT honing. Hmmm. A little crosshatching never hurts for new rings. Congrats though you CRUSHED that little guy!!!

Its not that I don't want to hone. I don't trust myself doing it with the home tools, plus that would make a mess of metal. I don't want metal dropping into the crankcase. I also don't want to pull the motor.

I was surprised to see damage to the skirt too, but I guess that is what I get for driving it with that for 500 miles.

I get the rods back tomorrow, so maybe she will be running this weekend.

A little off topic, you know your Dan.spec when all you see when you take the head off is pure black everywhere on everything.

That is WIN...WIN is defined as a black coating that coats everything in a dan.spec equipped vehicle's engine...note it is only found on dan.spec vehicles

I have to agree with George on this one... I find it amazing that you're not taking the extra step and doing this right. I was talking to my drag car buddy last night as we were installing his motor and when I mentioned to him about this...

"Well, honing the cylinder walls is only a good thing to do if you plan on the car staying running. Otherwise, it's not that critical"

He's done ALOT of motors and that's something he feels is time and $ well spent. You just spent how much on these new parts???

BTW... Dan P... that is now my new sig... ZOINCK!

I have to agree with Brian...Wes. Hone it baby. Ring seats will be so much better and from the looks of the fragged ringland/ring I bet you have some scoring. It really is an easy job. In the past, when faced with a D series honda garage build-- I actually knew someone who put the honing bit on a drill and did it that way....(who was that?)....

Not to mention that it's not like we're talking about a simple beater ride here... you're putting all this $$ into the good pistons, and then planning on this car putting some more power down and I'm sure increased boost like it was.... it's just plain silly to NOT get things right from the start.

Is it a PITA.... yes.

Is it worth it... F-Yeah.

my 3.87 cents ( adjusted for inflation )

Oh... and while I'm thinking about it.....

If anyone is planning on coming to BR Sunday for the Autocross.... I'm staying in PGH Saturday night, and I won't have net access all weekend, so I won't be caravaning with anyone that morning.

The registration starts around 8 and will be done by 9-9:30 IIRC. Going to be nice and there's already about 60 peeps registered, so spots fill up...

Brian,

I'm going to be a last-minute decision for Sunday. I don't know yet. I'm nervous about the car, still having intermittant problems with the suspension noises, bumps, and vibrations. I really would like to run since we've pretty much decided once Wes' car is done that mine is going off the road for a few months until I can afford to pay for repairs to get it done and get it done right, but I also don't want to break anything before we have another mode of transportation.

I see they're trying to throw ya into CSP for Sunday, Dan. I disagree but whatever the SCCA says goes I guess. DSP would be a much more competitive class with the RSX's, Si's, and MCS's, but I'm guessing they haven't seen enough N/A SS's to really know where to put ya.
