Ok, not tryin to be an ass, just throwing something out there. Let's say conventional oil you change every 3k and synthetic you change every 5k (which is still low, it can go higher, but this is just for argument's sake). So at 10000 miles you've done 2 oil changes on the synthetic and 3 on the conventional.
Let's break this down, shall we?
$12 in filters for synthetic, $18 for conventional
Let's say oil is $4 for synthetic, $2 for conventional per quart...
That's (assuming 5 qts) $40 for synthetic, $30 for conventional
So overall it's $52 for synthetic oil, $48 for conventional oil over the course of 10k miles......is it REALLY worth saving that extra $4???? And keep in mind I used a pretty conservative estimate on the synthetic changes. It's absolutely possible to go longer than 5000 miles on synthetic oil. BMW recommends the oil in their cars be changed no less than every 10k.
Or to be even more of a nerd, with a 5000 mile interval, the cost per mile of synthetic is $0.0052 while the cost per mile of conventional is $0.0053...so it's one ten-thousandth of a penny MORE to run conventional. If you run the synthetic to 7000 miles, then it drops to $0.0037 per mile to run synthetic.
My point is, while up front it costs more to run synthetic, it actually costs less in the long run JUST in oil costs. That's not counting potential cost of engine repairs down the line.

Everything is OK, thanks for your concern guys and girls. She had back surgery Tuesday and is still recovering... was getting to the point where she couldn't walk or stand for any length of time so she had to do something. Looks like she might be released Saturday.
Thanks again, I'll see you all at some point!

Double that.
It's amazing what they can do now. 13 years ago, when mom had her back surgery (sp?) she was up and walking that day.... I was amazed... titanium rods & pl's in her back hours earlier, and she walked...
Wes, let me know about Sunday.
As long as it's a heated garage... I'll be there... it's gonna be too friggin cold to be out in one that is NOT....lol

Oh it's heated. Nice and toasty. All this time Wes has been holding out on us with a nice garage, tons of room (if you don't mind working next to a Camaro and the occasional ***** battle), etc, etc. The Dans enjoy the wood burner. Appeals to their caveman instincts - "Mmm, fire, good..."
Ahhh...well the Having a Camaro next to me is nothing new.
The "toys" battling for supremicy might not be enjoyable...
Fire good, unless you're the scarecrow, or Frankenstien.. then FIRE BAD!

It's still fun though. Way better than my garage. We had tons o' fun when we did my exhaust.
On a side note, I think I'm gonna start ordering the rest of my car goodies today - WOO HOO! Sway bar links for sure, thinkin about picking up the subframe too. Decisions decisions. I want to get sway bars too, but nothing out so far really wows me as far as that goes.
Ah, tis off to work for me. Filling out paperwork for promotion/raise
Gotta love a job where they call you up and say "We have money we have to spend - want some?"

I only had one slice of that last night, ranch FTL. And that ***** is MIA.
Some good news is I might be able to get that Camaro out come maybe spring, probably summer. Which means lift is going in and that garage is getting pimped out.

Camaro coming out as in done, or sold????
I think the Dans took it. They seemed to be getting a lot of enjoyment out of it last night...
