Pittsburgh Crew < You
I've heard both sides... some say once you go synthetic, the rest is pathetic...lol
Seriously... some say you can, others say you SHOULDN'T.
What does the resident car engineers have to say on this?? I don't know why you WOULD change back if you put it in.

My manual calls for conventional and I think that as long as I change it regularly (which I do- every 3K) then the conventional should be OK. I just wanted to see what all they hype was about.
I switched mainly as an experiment to see if it was 'worth it'. I have noticed no gains in mileage or power since switching; the car runs exactly as it did on conventional. I figure with the miles I'll be putting on and the frequency with which I'll be doing oil changes, it really isn't worth the extra cost of the synthetic.

But seriously the nice thing about synthetic is you can go longer on an oil change and it really does have greater protection. I know when the oil comes out of the RL every 9k miles or so it is still very slick...if you handle used conventional oil then used synthetic you can feel the synthetic is slipperier and stay that way for a longer cycle. Synthetic last longers meaning less changes overall thereby reducing ur cost...ya my oil change runs me like 50 if i do it myself but i do it every 9k compared to every 3 AND i have excellent protection thru all those miles. Cost is about break even but its less maintenance and better protection. I'd say just keep running it..you can get 5qts of mobil 1 at walmart for like 19 bucks or less...saturn gave me a bunch of free oil changes from the tranny fiasco
Dan

And depending on who you spend that time with you might experience burning for a totally different reason...
Pssssssht...68 posts till 5k for me...newb.
Only a ricer puts synthetic oil in hoping for significant pow@r gains...c'mon Mike, we know you're car's slow, but we didn't know you thought you drove a Honda...
I get that reminder from Brian's "nephew" all the damn time. Thanks, Wes.

SOOOOO funny....
Anyway... Dan ( RL ) is right... you may not see any "performance gains" from running synthetic vs. conventional... but they put it in Vettes, Vipers, Porsches for a reason.
The Synthetic stands up to more heat, and doesn't break down. As long as the oil doesn't look "dirty", you're golden.
With these cars ( the SS's ) they run Mobil 1 from the get go, and I go between 5-6K between them... still doing it every 8 weeks or so, and they're $72 a pop @ the dealer.
With you wanting the car to be here for the rapture, I would think you'd want to make that motor last as long as in-humanly possible.
