King County deputies shoot a woman

King County deputies shot a woman who barricaded herself inside a home in Enumclaw with a gun Thursday evening.
Deputies were called to the house on the 37300 block of 244 Avenue Southeast, responding to a domestic violence investigation. When they entered the home, the woman pointed a gun at the deputies, and a shot was fired.

"We weren't sure if she was shooting at us or not," said Sheriff's Sergeant John Urquhart. "But discretion being the better part of valor, we kind of hunkered down and waited for reinforcements."

Numerous attempts to contact the woman failed, so after several hours, the SWAT team entered the home.

"The deputy went down into a crawlspace, she steps out from behind a post, she has a gun in her hand, and starts to level the gun at the deputy. So he shoots,' said Urquhart.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is expected to survive. No deputies were injured.
