My Favorite Roads

I love driving in the Mt. Rainier National park. I haven't done it in my Cobalt yet, but looking forward to it this summer! I like the river roads in Kent, they are pretty fun. Driving Whidbey Island is cool, especially through Deception Pass. Around Lake Tapps has some cool banked corners that are fun to hit. I have driven from San Fransisco on the PCH To Big Sur, arguably one of the best cruising roads in the world. Where are some other good cruising routes that you know of?

The srt guys are going to put together another drive and more than likely they will invite again, they liked our participation at the feb drive. I will keep posted, the drive will be like a hwy 101 around the mountains.

I know what you mean about MT Raineer I lived in Packwood for awhile (oh ya I said packwood and its a place not an action). If you ever get a chance take skate creek road up there ITS AWSOME.. no cops either.

If you you are interested in a road with high excitement at low speeds, you have to check out Reiter Road between Gold Bar and Index. Most corners are very tight, less than 30 mph and lots of them. Situated on the side of a mountain near the Skykomish River. Lots of places to stop for a walk to the river. Very few people around. The really exciting part is only about a mile long but you talk about intense.

I know it's a long way for you but even if you just travel Hwy 2 to Stevens Pass it's worth it. This is a beautiful drive but it typically has too much traffic to really unwind.

Just because they are marked low speeds doesn't mean you have to drive slow, it just means you better not get caught.

My idea of a good drive is how close to the line of oblivion I can get without going over it. I'd be willing to bet you have never even seen it much less touched it at 100+. I know I haven't except as the result of a drastic mistake or miscalculation. Most of us aren't willing to take that risk. I'd much rather drive on the edge at 30 than just steer a car at 100. A mistake at 30 is just a tad bit less destructive (and fatal) than 100. BTW it's only the turns that are low speed. You can probably reach 65-70 on the short straights. You're working first through third pretty hard. Almost like an stretched out autocross sourse.

But then again, this road is 3 minutes from my house so it's worth passing by on the way to the store. Not sure I would drive a long way to get here. But if you're passing through anyway.....
