The only thing that would stop it is some sort of escrow deal where the money goes into a hold at a neutral 3rd party until the part is delivered. That would involve a complex and expensive middle man setup which would be massive overkill for the few small parts that get bought and sold here.

You guys have some decent ideas, but they arent really feasible....
Our mod positions are 100% volunteer.
We are not paid for what we do, and are not on here 24/7.
We try our best to cut down on scams, but we can only do so much.
It's a few mods vs. a lot more members.

50 posts, 100 posts are easy to get to as well.
But guess what??? People have been scammed by people with 1000+ posts, or members that have been here for awhile.
Buying and selling on a car forum is a risk/gamble. This isn't e-bay with buyer protection.
We try our best to make the site safer for buying/selling, but it isn't 100%.

As long as everyone paid via paypal and not gifted him the money, you will all get your money refunded in time. My experience with this guy was a little different. He sent me most of the parts I paid for but "forgot" others. After a week or so, he sent me the final parts ut it was broken. After messaging back n forth though pm's, he stopped logging on so I started a claim against him. Once paypal got in contact with him, he emailed me asking what it would take to get me to cancel the claim. I asked for a replacement for the broken part or a partial refund for what the part was worth and he agreed to the refund. He said he would paypal me the refund later that day and it never happend. So I kept the claim open and after the 30 day period, paypal refunded me the full amount for everything I paid for due to him not responding to their questions after their initial contact with him.
