It should be possible to run the alternator backwards. In looking at the method the 2.2 jbody guys do it when they strap the gmpp supercharger on, this is indeed what GM does.

There are a few things though that go with this. We attempted something like this before on an LSJ, trying to run the alternator backwards after converting it to a turbo. The LSJ alternator is clutched in one direction, so if you spin it backwards, it simply freewheels. You might wanna check that the 2.4 one doesn't do the same. Also the number of ribs on each pulley is going to be different, if you're concerned about that, but its not a huge deal as they use a different belt on the 2.2 kit as well. It still works just fine.
