Bought our First House
Here is what you get in north jersey for 200,000.

great shape, yard needs a little work but an older woman has live there for 10 years, so we weren't expecting her to be on her hands and knees in the yard. the owner before her was a landscaper, and did a great job, just needs to be cleaned up a little. nothing major. backyard is 180 feet long, nice size, bigger than it looks in the pics. if you see that red house all the way in the background, our property ends about 15 feet before that. for north jersey it's a big property, and you can see the lake from our side yard. it's in a 'private community" so we have access to a few lakes and beaches, the clubhouse, all that crap. nice garage, which was important for me, nice driveway, good fireplace, and that's all i really cared about
it's only about 20 minutes north of where i am now, but a house like this in my area would easily be double, and with less property.
close on haloween, just signed all the papers today.

thanks man.
if you look at the pic with the chimney, then look at the one below it, it gives you a better idea of the size. not massive, but much bigger than i was hoping for. in the pic below the one with the chimney, where those bushes are in the middle of the yard that is a patio in the middle of the bushes.

but yea there's tons of lakes. the main lake you can see from the side yard, the beach is walking distance, about 2 1/2 blocks. there's another lake about 3 blocks in the other direction too. and it's so quiet, because there's no reason to go down any of these streets unless you live there. i've been there twice, and tonigh was there for a while doing all the papers and not one car drove by the whole time.
yea dude when i come home from work after a long day, pull the car in the garage, go inside and start a fire i think that's going to be a damn sweet feeling

it's not huge, but it's enough since it's just me and my gf, and there's room to expand. but honestly it's our first house, so i'm not sure how long we're even going to be there. we're getting the house so low, and besides the last year or so the property value in highland lakes has been going way up. to give you an idea, the lady that i bought the house from has been there for about 10 years, and most likely paid between 50-60k for the house. It used to just be vacation homes, but over the past few years more and more people are moving year round. once the market picks back up i'd expect a big jump in the value of the house.
