We repainted my dads old jeep he used to have. Man... Talk about a ton of wetsanding.

 

HELL NO! When I worked at the lot I used to write the bills for $50 per panel if I had to sand/compound.

wetsanding fresh paint is soooooooooooooooo much easier than cured paint. I worked in a few body shops before i decided I liked the somewhat less involved detailing.

what type of pad do you use hat?

 

chris does nice work, i had him do my LS once, it was SHINY

 

havent wet sanded anything so im not sure what i would use. i was using ccs orange with my compound on the bad parts of my car

 

i just mean in general for polishing?

 

polishing i was using a ccs grey pad, sealant applied with blue ccs

 

Nice work Stu!! I worked 6 years detailing so i know how much of a pain in the ass black cars are. My Camaro ss was black too. So far Ive been able to get away with just a claybar, I dont have the boys to buff on mine yet and its not even black.

I have used wool and tons of different foam pads, I reccomend, if you havent already, to try dreadlock or durastrand pad. They look like these...

and they work amazingly. They are actually designed to removes the scratches more easily, and create less friction and heat on the paint. These are my favorites of any I have ever used before! You should give them a try man.

ahhhhh, i see lol. You would be amazed what can be done with a rotory polisher, im off for now, but if you ever have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM man. I'd be more than happy to help you out. We'll have a friendly comparo of the paint in the spring.

I take about 3-5 hours for an entire detail door jambs, interior, carpet, windows, engine bay!

You'll have to wait untill tomorrow for that... it was kinda' overcast today... plus my last detail pics were while it was overcast!

Hand polishing can not even achieve the levels of machine polishing.

my point exactly, you have no idea what real detailing is. my dad "detailed" his own cars his entire life, so we are talking a good 40 years, and he has learned a **** ton about proper equipment and techniques since i really got into it. finding out you are doing stuff wrong is a hard pill to swallow, so i understand the reluctance, but you will truly step up your game if you listen. check ANY real detail shop, forum, professional, ANYONE that does good work, they all use machines. that is unless your hand functions the same as a high speed rotary or random orbital, in which case you probably give the best handjobs known to man kind!
