Exposure Comparo ~Camera Experts Needed!~ *56K maybe*
Out and about experimenting with my camera, i took the same pictures in two different exposure settings. I was wondering what one would be the proper picture (because one looks like day, the other night, of which time it really was).
Or what one just plain looks better?
Comparo One- A - Exposure set at -2/3

Comparo One- B - Exposure set at +2/3

Comparo Two- A - Exposure set at -2/3

Comparo Two- B - Exposure set at +2/3

Any and all help in this matter is appreciated!

why not take the picture at 0?
the +2/3 look better if you do a bit of post processing (levels & curves) to bring back some of the blown out high lights... But it really depends on what you want from the image, b/c the -2/3 look good too.

I am using a Canon Powershot S2IS. I was hoping to learn more on exposures and light levels, but i think i have to use photoshop to touch some more up.
I was looking for the sharpness of the + exposed images, with the lighting having a "bubble" or "flash" look to it.
So really, it's whatever i want out of the pic that makes it better...?

layer the two pics and mask sky from A and combine with car/foreground from B
use both to make one: (hope you don't mind, I'll take it down if you'd like Captain)

burned the highlights in the sky just a tad also..
Ever experiment with long exposures? Like 30 seconds?

yea, I tried to create a HDR-like example with your pics, but it turned out like poo (really pixelated) once I uploaded it. If you look at my sig, I gave a little HDR look to my pic of my car. I'll have to see if I can find a larger version...
Captian - do you have a "Manual" setting on your cam? Low shutter speed, lower ISO's and play around with the aperture for the longer exposures. If you've got a histogram you can view (preferably in camera), learn how to read them and that can really help you understand exposing properly while shooting.

It was an really overcast day, so I added some blue sky after the fact...
