Jeremy Clarkson - US vs. Europe (The Good, Bad and the Ugly)

Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson comes to America in search of a "good" automobile.

According to him ... he finds none.

SRT-8, Vette, "Zed" 06 Vette, Mustang GT, vintage Mustang GT 390, Shelby 500 Mustang, and the Dodge Viper. He finds major faults with all of them.

He even tests the Ford GT and the 700hp Ford GT X1.

While speaking highly of the Ford GT (he owns one himself) he goes on to explain why he doesn't even consider the GT as being "American".

Enjoy! (I guess?)

unless it's got B, M, and W in the name, he'll find something wrong with it.

this guy is such a ***. hes comparing a z06 to a ferrari 599. The car is three times as expensive. With another $180,000, I bet GM could make it a little quieter.

I find it funny how people say that he's such a *** when he's absolutely right when you compare "Americas Best" to "Europes Best"

The only arguement is "You can't compare it cause it cost much more" is pure BS. It cost more because it is WORTH more and is much better engineered.

You know why there aren't GM super cars that are worth half a million? Cause they aren't capable of making such a thing while having the price tag to be absolutely worth it in quality. GM had it's chance with the new ZR-1 and you know what they did? They put a freaking supercharger on it! Why? Cause they are so stuck in the "American Muscle" scope of things rather than doing something innovative.

But yeah...Jeremy Clarkson's a *** cause he's absolutely right. Is he biased? Sure a little bit but he's right still. Hell you guys are biased too.

FYI: I've owned a American and Japanese car and I'd still take a European any day (and I will when I have the money).

Konigseggs are supercharged :-P

He is very biased as we all are but when it comes down to it, I will agree.

Do I <3 my chevy and act like a fanboi sometimes? **** yeah! Are there American cars that outperform their Europeon counterparts? Yes, but there is more to life than performance. I.E. you buy a Ferrari for everything: the build, the heritage, the sounds and features that Ferrari has.

Yeah there are paddleshifts, but not like what Ferraris have...then there's the looks.

A ZR-1 looks like a vette with a lexan insert on the hood with a lip kit added on to the stock body panels.

A vette will still turn heads and make pretty sounds, but it won't have the heritage and the **** ME RED that Ferrari has.

Adam, do you really hate superchargers that much?

No, let me clarify...

I don't hate superchargers...I hate lack of creativity. Every time GM wants to boost something, they call up their boys at Eaton for a damn roots supercharger. Then they made the mistake of putting it on a 4 cylinder for mass production. Why do you think they stopped that after a couple of years?

Koenigsegg has centrifugal superchargers...twin superchargers.

I haven't seen every thing he compares but I can understand him comparing a Z06 and a Ferrari...it's essentially 1 of the best that America offers and a Ferrari is the best that Europe offers.

I hear ya, I was jsut bustin' your grapes a tad.

Creativity is like a double edged sword when it comes down to it...you have to be willing to take the chance.

I think the LNF going in everything will be the start of a change for F/I ideas for GM.

It is also hard for an American automaker to come out with something that will compete against what the Europeons have come out with because when it comes down to it, two different areas, two different types of people.

Here it seems bigger=better, look at our pick up trucks, I rented a silverado Thursday while stuff was being done to my car, and the friggen thing was huge. I could on for hours about trucks...

Bottom line, I have whored myself out to as many cars as I can, and honestly if American cars had half the build quality of say VW/Audi, I would be estatic.

He's one sided, but who cares what he says. Richard Hammond is much more pro American car, but hes not as out spoken.

It's a good show.

i agree the z06 and ferrari is a great comparison. stage 3 stang vs an exige? come on now. those two cars share absolutely nothing in common. land rover vs. an H2 and an escalade for an offroad comparison? huh? you just pitted a mustang (after having a z06 to test with) against an exige, thats ridiculous. he purposely picks us cars to be out of their element in a couple of these.

seeing how much water an old junker cadi can hold, and then laughing when it couldnt hold it at all. pretty funny considering they did the EXACT same test with 3 70's british cars this past season on top gear and HIS car could not fill up either. interesting...

the cadi the most expensive sports car???? the new viper costs more than the cadi he tested...

wonder how many interviews he cut out with the las vegas people?

the ram as a get-away vehicle compared to an atom? well no **** sherlock. ive never seen any movie with a ram as a get-away car.

pretty interesting they would race the viper against a agile little m series, and not say an aston martin? seems the aston martin would make much more sense than the m or comparing times with the atom. odd...

oh and the gt isnt really american because its influenced by european designers. oh wait a sec who makes the land rover, or the jag?

the whole thing is obviously incredibly closed minded and biased. he has a FEW valid points, such as overall build quality and the ferrari engine sound (i got a massive erection on that part)
