an escalade off road vehicle? seriously? its one thing to compare to their best and then compare a dodge ram to the atom...for the most part it was all cheap shots...sure europe has good cars but for those that side with what this episode has to say come on now...anyone can do what he did in this episode...and was he really comparing best vs best or just being a douche and taking cheap shots at the US...think about it watch the whole thing thoroughly and see if he really is comparing cars or just talking smack theres a thin line between witty comments and just being a douche

And here, let me help you out a bit:

A = Quality (Part Build Tolerances and Survivability)
B = Cost (Manufactured Suggested Retail Price + any normally/regularly offered discounts)
C = Performance (Acceleration/Cornering/Braking etc.)
D = Value (Overall Worth)

Formula:
D = A+B+C

^This is what any sane, consumer conscious person considers when buying a car.

Each comparison has to be taken on a car by car basis.

So do you really think the Cobalt's build quality is that good? I mean I think on B and C of your equation the Cobalt scores pretty darn high but on A I'm not so sure. My car rattles from somewhere behind my head when I'm driving and I can't pin point it and it's full of cheap plastic which I think is a short coming. Now I'm not saying the Focus ST or the VXR are any better, I don't know I've never been in one so I can't speak to that but I wouldn't take the Cobalt as the mark of a high quality build. It's very average especially if you compare it to the Acura RSX, the Subaru Imprezza, the VW GTI, and the Audi A3 which are all similarly priced cars. With that said, I drove all of those and I bought a Cobalt so that says something I suppose.

To generalize a little I'd say that's where we behind the Europeans and to a much lessor extent the Japanese, but I see American makers taking big strides in the right direction.

the overall quality of a car of the same price in europe, is higher than in the US.
and conversely, the overall performance of a same priced car in the US is higher than europe.

but trying to say that because a car has more HP for the $, that its the better car....is pretty silly.

his comparisons are like putting a 350z against an ariel atom on that track. look at them both, not that far off from one another performance wise, but the atom will absolutely dominate. in reality they arent in the same ball park at all. srt8 vs M5=retarded

the off road thing was the worst one i think. come on, an excalade and H2 off road, hahahahahaha!!! they are all show! a bronco or jeep would have killed both of those!

 

straight up i would prefer an bmw m5 m3 m1 over lots of cars available from US manufacturers and there are a shitload of good European cars. Credit is given where it is deserved; the only problem is if the Europeans can appeal more to some one who makes what a working class american does and not someone who is rich without losing quality they can be the ultimate manufaturers of cars. I mean sure the rich want to play i mean if i had the money most of my cars would be European expcept for a Zr1 Viper and Gt. This is the one reason why Americans prefer American cars the price since not everyone is a millionaire. And a lot of times americans just go "oh 400hp that things a beast got to have it" without looking at the whole picture. Yes i am an American and i was raised by a European family so i can talk for both sides

On a side not where was the EcoTak in the Ariel Atom why the VTAK

 

the original ariel atom came with a 300hp supercharged honda engine.

the American equivalent was released with the LSJ.

 

but you don't have to be a millionare to own some really great European cars. The lotus elise and exige come to mind first, then there's the Porsche Cayman S, and 911 NA. As well as the 335i BMW, M3, and the new 135i. Mercedes also has some very nice AMG models for the same price as say a C6 and certainly for less then a Viper or ZR1.

The Ariel first came out in Europe and it was a supercharged Honda engine. Then a American private company bought the design and put a supercharged ecotec motor in.

So you're just looking at the European version.

IMADreamer you are right but then you look at porsche and the 911 and cayman s are garbage compared to what else they offer but the other stuf just costs a lot GT3+G3RS for example. But i feel that if they could just offer a little more at a lower price it would be awesome. I am not saying that the cars you named are in any way mediocre i like them all but just to give more for the price would make Europe the best.
