Jeremy Clarkson - US vs. Europe (The Good, Bad and the Ugly)
Nope, we are comparing Quality VERSUS Price to determine VALUE.
Now nothing is more "realistic" than that.
And anyone who denies that both price and quality are factors for determining a car's net value - are not being completely honest with themselves.
Your welcome.

no
your posts didnt have a single thing about quality in them
check for yourself.
all you based it on, was HP vs price.
HP != Quality

Now that's more like it! Uhhh, wait a minute ...
Over 33k ?
'08 SC buyers will have that much hp, and still have over $8,000 left.

Performance roughly in between a stock SC and a Stage 2 SC ....
But at a $12,000-$15,00 penalty.
Ouch.
So the tally on this and the previous car is:

an escalade off road vehicle? seriously? its one thing to compare to their best and then compare a dodge ram to the atom...for the most part it was all cheap shots...sure europe has good cars but for those that side with what this episode has to say come on now...anyone can do what he did in this episode...and was he really comparing best vs best or just being a douche and taking cheap shots at the US...think about it watch the whole thing thoroughly and see if he really is comparing cars or just talking smack theres a thin line between witty comments and just being a douche

but if we don't talk about performance then America loses, every time! So we can't talk about quality and we certainly can't talk about socioeconomical factors because then again we'd find out that America is behind Europe. We just can't have that here on good old CobaltAmericanuthuggingifyoutellthetruthyousuckAme ricarules.net. An0malous, your a smart cookie and you know you won't get a fair discussion here when it comes to American cars. People here aren't capable.
I already had mentioned quality as being one of the relevant issues.
But let me ask you guys this: If, say, European cars have 3x the build quality of American cars - but they cost 3x as much ...
Doesn't that make them equal in value? Isn't it a wash?
I would think that European cars could be considered vastly superior to American cars IF they were able to produce that increased quality for the same amount of $$.
But they don't.

And here, let me help you out a bit:
A = Quality (Part Build Tolerances and Survivability)
B = Cost (Manufactured Suggested Retail Price + any normally/regularly offered discounts)
C = Performance (Acceleration/Cornering/Braking etc.)
D = Value (Overall Worth)
Formula:
D = A+B+C
^This is what any sane, consumer conscious person considers when buying a car.
Hope that clears things up a bit for you ...
Each comparison has to be taken on a car by car basis.

But what most people here ARE capable of is giving an honest look at ALL of a car's parameters, and not just saying "It's foreign, so it must be good".
That kind of thinking is over simplistic, knaive, and extremely narrow minded.
This world already has way too much of that kind of cr_ p mentality, and we certainly don't need any of it here on SS.net forums.
So please everyone, don't even try and give us any.
'Cause we're not buying it. None of us are ....

Not so. That's a generic statement, and therefore by it's very nature - doesn't hold water.

What we can't/don't want here are Euro biased fan boys.

So do you really think the Cobalt's build quality is that good? I mean I think on B and C of your equation the Cobalt scores pretty darn high but on A I'm not so sure. My car rattles from somewhere behind my head when I'm driving and I can't pin point it and it's full of cheap plastic which I think is a short coming. Now I'm not saying the Focus ST or the VXR are any better, I don't know I've never been in one so I can't speak to that but I wouldn't take the Cobalt as the mark of a high quality build. It's very average especially if you compare it to the Acura RSX, the Subaru Imprezza, the VW GTI, and the Audi A3 which are all similarly priced cars. With that said, I drove all of those and I bought a Cobalt so that says something I suppose.
To generalize a little I'd say that's where we behind the Europeans and to a much lessor extent the Japanese, but I see American makers taking big strides in the right direction.
Nope.

talking of over simplistic NAIVE, and narrow minded.
see above.
sorry chief, but your just as biased as top gear is.
if you honestly think it takes 3 times the money to build 3 times the car, your are deluding yourself.
the overall quality of a car of the same price in europe, is higher than in the US.
and conversely, the overall performance of a same priced car in the US is higher than europe.
but trying to say that because a car has more HP for the $, that its the better car....is pretty silly.
you contradicted yourself in your own posts.

this reminds me of the commercial from ford where the dude is sitting at a loading/unloading dock and a huge crate comes off the ship and the german guy looks at the american and says "what, u couldnt find a car u liked here in germany?!" and the american says "no, I couldnt find a speed limit i liked in america!" now im not a ford fan but god damn thats a good commercial

I find it quite humerous that the most obvious bias in this thread....
and the person most deserving of that word you keep throwing around "fanboi"
is yourself.
thanks for the discussion frank. you need to realise that when someone disagrees with you, that doesnt make them wrong, or right, or dumb, or biased, or deserving of your childish belittling comments.
Your going to have unfriendly arguments your whole life if you dont learn that really quick.

his comparisons are like putting a 350z against an ariel atom on that track. look at them both, not that far off from one another performance wise, but the atom will absolutely dominate. in reality they arent in the same ball park at all. srt8 vs M5=retarded
the off road thing was the worst one i think. come on, an excalade and H2 off road, hahahahahaha!!! they are all show! a bronco or jeep would have killed both of those!

straight up i would prefer an bmw m5 m3 m1 over lots of cars available from US manufacturers and there are a shitload of good European cars. Credit is given where it is deserved; the only problem is if the Europeans can appeal more to some one who makes what a working class american does and not someone who is rich without losing quality they can be the ultimate manufaturers of cars. I mean sure the rich want to play i mean if i had the money most of my cars would be European expcept for a Zr1 Viper and Gt. This is the one reason why Americans prefer American cars the price since not everyone is a millionaire. And a lot of times americans just go "oh 400hp that things a beast got to have it" without looking at the whole picture. Yes i am an American and i was raised by a European family so i can talk for both sides
On a side not where was the EcoTak in the Ariel Atom why the VTAK

So you're just looking at the European version.
i want to find a site that would offer that body for the aerial atom any ideas and about how much it would cost. I would imagine it would be a bit though.
IMADreamer you are right but then you look at porsche and the 911 and cayman s are garbage compared to what else they offer but the other stuf just costs a lot GT3+G3RS for example. But i feel that if they could just offer a little more at a lower price it would be awesome. I am not saying that the cars you named are in any way mediocre i like them all but just to give more for the price would make Europe the best.
