Next step with equipment??

Hey guys.

Well, I'd like to get some feedback from other guys who've been doing this for longer than me. lol.

I'm really trying to get into photography. I would've loved to do it in college, but video was much more accessible, so that's how that goes. But in my spare time, it's a seriously fun hobby. Regardless, I'm on my 4th digital camera. My first was an old Canon. It's been awhile. We're talking like 3mp. After that, a Nikon Powershot of some kind. 4mp. Then over christmas, I got an HP 10mp for doing an internship. I sold it because I didn't care for it too much. So last winter, I bought myself a better one. I bought a SLR-esque Olympus 510-UZ. It's got the 10x zoom and all that, plus, with an adapto, you can use filters and the like. 7.1mp too. Reasonable. I like it so far, but I feel I can do more with it. So I'd like to get some lenses. Instead of spending a billion dollars to get real Olympus filters and stuff, you can get packs off photo places on eBay. You need a special adaptor for this camera, so it's not super easy until you get one. The basic kit has a UV and a polarizer. It seems like the polarizer would be great for car photography (what I manly do) since it'd eliminate alot of glare on windows and stuff. Correct? Then there's a wide-angle package, a super close-up package, etc. I don't do a ton of close ups, so what would be good to get, just about everything else? I've also got a few tripods.

On top of that, I have a photography class next semester. For it, you've gotta have a 35mm SLR. So I got a Nikon N90s from my girlfriends sisters husband. He does professional photography. He's gone all digital now, so he sold me this for 50 bucks. I like it alot so far, but am not sure if it'd be better to build it up or get a newer one down the line. It's got the vertical grip and other stuff like that. It's a pretty badass camera for being from 1994. And from what I've seens, it can take amazing pics. But I don't know if it's worth it to get lenses that are several hundred bucks for an older camera. Especially considering I'm trying to save for a DSLR (probably starting off with a Nikon N80 I think it is, it's like 600). But I'd like to have a classic film camera to mess around with too.

For new DSLR's, what do you guys have experience with? I'd love to get one, but being that I'm in college with a brand new car, money isn't overflowing. Brands don't really matter, but I'm most knowledgeable with Canon, Nikon and Olympus...

Here's a pic of my N90s.

Here's an N90s pic database.

And more info on the N90s.

And lastly, here's the 510-UZ pic database.

Any newer lenses, should work on the N90, as long as they are all for Nikon. Basically if you buy Nikon lenses now for the N90 they should still work if you go get a Nikon DSLR

I find out today that all Nikons will interchange between the N90s 35mm and the N80 DSLR I was looking at. However, I'm probably just gonna get a basic lens 28-80 for my class for the N90s, then go from there for my DSLR choice for later on this year.

I want to expand my question though, I'm currently between the Canon D80 and the Canon Rebel XTi. Both are very comperable cameras, and both are 10mp with super quick lenses. I really like the N80, but I can't justify spending the extra almost 400 bucks over the XTi already being like 900 bucks. Any input on that??
