Now There's 2 Balts Parked At The Firehouse ...

A new guy bid an open spot at our Fire Station, and he also drives a 'Balt.

(my blue 07 SC and his yellow 07 2LT)

He got the hi-pro spoiler after he saw it on my car I think.

I tried talking him into some GMPP mods, but he said his g/f won't have any part of it.

Funny I think, coming from a young man who's been in the military and has seen war (women!).

Tell him to knock off his spoiler. The high rise is should be reserved for "performance" models. Imo

there's 2.2L black cobalt here in town with FULL ss/sc badges, wing, bumpers and lips......stock interior...and its not supercharged.

i'm thinking about taking a hacksaw to the spoiler and leave them a note on the wiper that says "The highrise wing is reserved for supercharged models only, call me when you get one and i'll give you your wing back" and then leave them the number to a randomly selected family from the phone book

My friend with the yellow 'Balt is staring over my shoulder right now, and he wants me to tell you guys;

"Remind the military boys to be respectful - and if you are not going to be ... make sure your saying exactly what you think your rank can handle."

"The g/f doesn't allow me to upgrade/mod the car too much because she has to drive it sometimes and besides, we have bigger things on the horizon ... like a house".

"Upgrades to be determined at a later date".

"HOOAH!"

^(that was him, not me!)

get over the wing thing. It's his ******* car, stop being so damned holier-than-thou about a stupid spoiler. Besides, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. You gonna tell all of the guys here with the fender stripes that they're not driving a Corvette?

^^^^^EXACTLY !!!

There are no SS/SC's on my little town but THREE base models with the High rise. It could be worse. There is a GTO in town with an airplane wing and graphics on it. Ewwww.
I personally dont care for the wing on any model. It serves no function, blocks views and the car looks cleaner without it. JMO

Personally, I think the high rise spoiler doesn't belong on a Cobalt, period.

Just want to let you guys know that the guy with the yellow 'Balt is in no way trying to pass his car off as an SC (doesn't have any "SS" or "Supercharged" badges).

He just liked the wing, so he got it. What's wrong with that?

I'd like to see him someday maybe get a couple of performance parts is all.

everyone has their own taste, and because he's got the interest to modify his car is awesome. hey guys, he bought something chevy makes, not an aftermarket Cessna wing.

^Yup.

When people retire from the Fire Department, that causes their spot/position to be open.

This causes movement on the job as people bid for that spot (based on seniority).

The guy with the yellow 'Balt has 1 1/2 years on the job, and he got the spot (with almost 15 years on the job, I'm the most senior firefighter for all of the 4 shifts for my station - LOL).

Wow, that's a pretty low amount of experience to have the most IMO. My dad's assistant chief here and he has 33 years of experience. There's about 6 or 7 other guys with at least 20 and 1 other with over 30. I definitely have a lot of respect for you guys though, CRAP wages for the danger you're in sometimes and you're on call 24/7.

The position that guy got was the "3rd man" spot. To get a Driver/Operator/Firefighter position takes a lot more time.

When I came on in '92 the job had a good amount of 30+ year guys. But that's no longer the case, guys are taking their 20 years and leaving

I think that's because since then we've been downsized. We lost 2 of our 6 Fire Stations, and went from 140 people down to 118.

We've also had many more job duties added on as well:
  • WMD ("Weapons of Mass Destruction")
  • More Extensive HazMat Training ("Hazardous Materials")
  • Dedicated Fire Rescue Boat w/ongoing Training (used to be done by the County)
  • Medics Now Responsible For Control/Administering of Pain Relieving Narcotics (very stringent State/Federal protocols to follow)

The amount of on the job injuries has increased, mental/physical stress has gone way up, etc. Oh well.

Defintiely not the same job as when I got on 15 years ago ...

Try it!

As a volunteer, you probably won't be dealing with EMS (counties usually have Volunteer Ambulance Services for that). And the call volume is a whole lot less compared to that of the cities.

See if it fits into your lifestyle. It can be a very rewarding experience!

True that. I'd choose my car over a woman any day.
