The Suntank is still alive....

Hello,

Haven't posted in a while, figured I'd stop in a drop a quick update.

Suntank is still kicking...not to much new this year, but a few things have changed.

Biggest thing is the boost has gone up, went up from 11psi last year, to 15psi this year. The stock LE5 bottom end is holding up like a champ still, hopefully it at least lasts the rest of the season, that is a lot of boost to throw at a stock LE5 from a 63trim T3/T4. Still need to finish up the tune tonight, but its 95% there.

Re-did my meth system, wasn't functioning 100% last year, so I changed a few things and it is much improved. No pics of that tho.

Upgraded to 24.5/8.0-13 MT slicks from my previous 22/9.0-13 M&H slicks, the 22's made the gearing way to short for a turbo car and I was having to shift to 4th in the 1/8th mile, they should also help with traction a bit

The car needed some massaging (via a pair of tin snips and a hammer) to get them to fit and be able to turn without hitting the fender...but they are in there now and it turns fine.

I didn't get a chance to run it down the 1/4 last year, but I did manage to send it down the 1/8th, ran a best of 7.8@91mph on 11psi (Best I can tell that should equal a high 11 in the 1/4).

Headed to the 1/8th mile track again this weekend to hopefully run closer to a 7.5, hopefully the traction is good (its kinda a low budget track).

I'll run it down the 1/4 this summer come hell or high water, I just wanna beat ZZP's best run of a 11.8 in a LE5, and do it on a bone stock bottom end. (PS. Does anyone actually know the LE5 1/4 mile record? Is it ZZP's 11.8 or has someone gone faster?)

Thats about it, for those who have never seen the car before.....its an '05 Sunfire with a LSJ/LE5 hybrid I built, AMMFAB ported head, full valvetrain, cams, BS delete and a Hahn prototype turbo kit (the 20g turbo has been switched out for a 63trim T3/T4) and all the supporting mods.

On my old 22" I was getting 1.7 when it was all-motor, best I could manage on boost was a high 1.8...it just made to much power to hook. Launching at 5000rpm off a 2-step and 5psi. Car also has a Quaife LSD and the suspension is set up for drag racing.

First time running the 24.5" will be this coming weekend.

Not much for reading I take it...lol I haven't run it down the 1/4 yet, best 1/8th mile was a 7.8@91 on 11psi, which should be around a high 11 in the 1/4.

Now on 15psi and hoping for 7.5-7.6 with the new tires.

Back from the track, traction was an issue but still managed a PB of 7.7@95.6mph.

Not a huge gain in ET but picked up nearly 5mph, and I was spinning first off the limiter on that run.

Pumped.

Cool to see this thing is still going strong. Impressive 1/8 mile traps! You should have no problem going mid 11's with a good 60' and traps well over 120mph in the 1/4.
