$1000 for Timing Chain

So I started my car and there was a clickety clackety situation going on by the passenger side of the engine. Apparently my timing chain is messed up, and thats beyond my area of expertise. Shop quoted me $1000 to install a new kit, does that sound right? Also while theyre digging around in my engine block is there anything else I should have em do? Gonna call around and get some more quotes in the meantime.

Going to a dealership does cost a lot of money as most of that will be labor charges.

Change the tensioner first before doing the whole chain.

It's more than likely the tensioner... the dealer is trying to make $$$$ off of you.

Purchase a new timing chain tensioner from CED, and you should be ok.

Timing chains are not a failure point in our cars... its the guides and tensioner that fail.

Dealerships make only a little money in car sales, It's the car repairs where they make the money and will always try and get the big bucks in their service department.
