06 ss/sc hesitation?

Last week I picked up a 06 ss/sc and this past weekend I did the airbox mod with a spectre universal filter. Now I have only noticed this problem since I did the mod most likely because I have been paying attention to every little hiccup it makes.

Everything else is completely stock on the car. The problem is that when accelerating at part throttle fairly heavily the cars seems to hessitate in power output on all upshifts. I come up to around 4k rpms shift and then when I push the accelerator pedal it builds boost quickly again but it almost feels like severe turbo lag. I have only had 1 cel for po171 which I have attributed to the airbox mod since I have checked and checked for vacuum leaks and can't find any.

I am going to try a general tune-up when I can and clean the maf and spark plugs this weekend and hope that helps. The car has 126k on it and I'm not sure if the plugs have ever been changed. Also I am kind of thinking maybe the cat might be bad but it pulls great all the way to redline and builds around 12.5 boost on the gauge its just on the upshifts it seems to want to take its time putting any power to the ground.

Anyone have any opinions? The help is greatly appreciated.

should be pushing 12.5psi ur good there

our intake systems are very finicky.

did it rain? water in the intake hitting the maf can cause 'hiccups'

No it does this every time on moderate part throttle acceleration. Wot I can't say its as noticeable but it perhaps could be. I'm going to try pulling the ecu fuse and resetting it since I never did that after doing the airbox mod. Its not really a real problem just annoying since I feel as though I'm going to get run over pulling into heavy traffic.

Also on another note, when I got the car the dealership put a full tank of gas in it before I left the lot and I can't be sure they used premium. I have since then ran that out and put premium back in however.

I'm just stumped really. Can't afford to have the car tuned if its a tuning issue but like I said the car is completely stock and I wouldn't think the factory tune could be that far off.

yeah make sure its nothing but 93 in there

never hurts to replace spark plugs get factory recommended ngks gapped to ~.28-.32

coil packs could be shot too but i'd wait for a code first

Yes plugs are for sure going in this weekend as well as the maf getting cleaned. I know advance auto parts sells a special maf sensor cleaner in an aerosol can but is there anything else that might be better?

po171 is bank 1 lean code... so i doubt its anything to do with coils or plugs. Like you said... its most likely due to something with the air box mod... but i would definitely try cleaning the MAF sensor and then check to make sure you put the air box back together correctly...

I'm sure I put it back together right. Not many ways you could screw that up that I could see besides the piping between the box and tb not being together all the way.

After doing some driving around I believe my shift point of 4k just drops the engine out of its optimum torque output range because if I shift closer to 5k then the percieved lag isn't near as bad.

Its just going to take some getting used to the power curve of this engine. I'm used to larger displacement engines with more torque down low where as this motor feels like it could pull waay past its current redline of 6450 on wot runs.

Yes exactly what I'm talking about. Just kind of annoying really. Like I said not used to having to spin high rpms to make decent power. Even in my old eclipse gs with the 2.4 liter it had more torque than this car feels like on the upshifts until around 3700 then its whoa hang on were going somewhere now.

Still plan on doing the plugs, cleaning the maf, and maybe the fuel filter if I find it lol.

I would also clean the tb but when u do it don't move the butterfly at all and make sure all of the intake is tight and do your general tune up like u were thinking and I would replace the fuel filter like the guy just posted

I actually already cleaned the throttle body very thoroughly with a microfiber rag and mineral spirits. I also moved the throttle plate with no problems. I just didn't let it slam shut or change its position quickly to keep from jarring anything.

Also thanks for letting me know where the fuel filter was. I was pretty sure it would be towards the rear somewhere just like every other gm vehicle I have serviced before but those were all much older vehicles so I want sure if they might have changed it.
