09 SS - Timing Chain Broke?

Guys, I recently acquired an clean 09 SS. It was a donated car, that I bought from an auto auction. I ended up tracking down the seller and he was fairly certain that the timing chain was broke (but isnt sure). He said when it happened it sounded similar to marbles in a can.

For some more information....right now it cranks, but will not start. I checked the usual fuses, oil level, listened for the fuel pump etc. just in case it was indeed something easy. The CEL is on, but the only code is P0100. I also dont think the MAF would be the only culprit. I believe there were likely more codes but they were likely cleared at some point due to the battery being disconnected for a while.

I plan on pulling the valve cover later on this afternoon but I just wanted to ask if there was any other things I should check along the way. I am fairly mechanical but I haven't had any experience with timing chains etc. I've also got a video of what its doing. I'll post it here.

Any help would be appreciated. Anyone nearby (to Annapolis MD) is welcome to PM me and we can try and diagnose in person.

Valve cover is easy enough to pull that I would do that right away. If your timing chain is broken you will immediately be able to tell. From the starting video it doesn't sound like the engine has any compression which if it lost a timing chain could be from damaged valvetrain, pistons or both.

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I'm thinking too. When I pull it, I'll likely have to pull the head to see how things are underneath. Hopefully the damage isn't too bad.

If the timing chain broke, pull the plugs and take a look from there and turn the motor over with the crank bolt. If you see parts and pieces just pull the motor, you'll spend more trying to R&R it than just buying a crate LDK motor.

Thanks for the help. I'm hoping its not too messed up....Will it be obvious without a bore-scope of some sort to see if it is indeed messed up.

Guys. I got the cover off and the chain is not broke but it is loose enough so that when u bump the motor over the intake side will skip a tooth.
So essentially either it's stretched. Or the tensioner is broke.

I looked at spark plugs holes and I don't see anything. The head also looks in pretty good shape. Very clean etc. So my questions us mainly..why would this have happened at 136k miles?
Since it's an interfearence motor what are the chances that something else is wrong. Or what are the chances that it's just a matter of new chain and re timing?

I wouldn't trust that there is nothing wrong with the valves and Pistons if it can skip a tooth while cranking. And yes I would think the tensioner is broke.

You guys know anyone in MD that's interested in sending a hand? I guess the game plan is to take off the head to see if there is damage. If there is re-evaluate. If there isn't. Replace the timing chain.

With the engine having 137k on it I wouldn't pull the head if you're planning on driving the car for 3-4years. Buy an LDK long block and replace the motor. But if you're just repairing it to flip it in the next 6-12months then do the timing and head gasket.

I'm 3 hours away from you in NJ. I can fix it if you have the funds.

I am in the process of pulling the head. I finally got the exhaust heat shroud bolts loose to get to the exhaust manifold but the heat shield wraps around the manifold and is trapped by the turbo. Will I have to pull the turbo to pull the shroud and then to get it out?

Man. Never ends

You will need to remove the o2 housing to take those off
