2.2l weird noise

I recently began hearing a ticking noise coming from the passenger side of my engine I hear it loudest between 1500-2000 rpm, my car has approx 170,000 km on it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think that there is a way to check it and it's not expensive so it's worth it to just replace. Just make sure you get the revised one, I believe crateenginedepot.com sells them. It is on the passenger side of the engine next to the exhaust manifold. You will see huge bolt head and that's what it is. You need a 32mm or 1 1/4" socket to get it out along with possibly an extension or u-joint. Just unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. Do it slowly and carefully though to make sure your timing chain doesn't skip teeth.
