Another random No Start/Power Steering/Crazy Guages problem
Ive read all kinds of threads about people who have had the same problem, but no one has found any solution. Here's my story:
2 weeks ago i bought a 2006 cobalt SS with 106xxx miles on it. during the test drive everything worked fine, no issues at all. I fell in love with the car instantly.
12 hours after bringing it home I went go start it up and nothing happened, POWER STEERING and LOW FUEL was being displayed on the instrument panel. After trying a dozen or so times to start it up she finally started. The guages werent working and the power steering was crapping out. Dropped the car off to the dealer I bought it from and they ended up replacing the ignition switch, twice actually after having the same problem after getting the car back. The car has been at the dealer for the last week and they cant seem to find the problem.
Ive contacted the local GM dealership to make sure all the recalls have been done that needed to be done, which they have. I know there was a problem with the power steering motor itself. I dont think my car was eligible for the motor recall. Could the power steering motor be at fault for this?

Alternator. That's pretty much the textbook case for how these cars react when the alternator isn't working properly. The power steering and gauges are the first things to not work properly.

I would believe its the alternator. I had a similar problem to you in my basemodel. And now that i think about it i would go thru batteries like crazy i think i went thru like 3 different batteries in 6 yrs or so, never had a starting problem or anything like that so it could be
haven't tested the battery yet. Just checked voltage at idle in two different places, at the positive terminal at the fuse box its at 14.30, and at the battery its 14.0 the next time it does it again I'm gonna check the voltage at the battery. It usually happens when its been sitting for awhile and its hot out. I'm leaning towards the battery, its on off brand ive never heard of. who knows how old it is.
