Back fire question.

My car had been backfiring in between the 1st and 2nd shift. It’s not excessively loud, but i was wondering if anyone has that problem. Is there a particular reason why cars backfire, for example, type of gas or, bad spark plugs? Any input would be appreciated.

I believe it means that you are running rich. Unburnt fuel is finding its way into the exhaust system, where it finally combusts and gives the backfiring sound.

No it's not damaging

Try downshifting and blip the throttle while you're decelerating, all it is is unburnt fuel in the exhaust pipes.

technically its called afterfire. Backfire happens when there is an explosion in your intake manifold

Thats what happens when you are bored at work.

Anyways, if you are actually running rich, your cat could end up being clogged prematurely.
