Belt slipping? Clutch slipping?
Everytime I am on the highway, or just driving for that matter, everytime I give a little gas to gain speed, the rpms spike. So say I am in third at 2200 rpms and I give it gas, instead of the rpms slowly rising, (say like to 2500 rpms) they go up to about 5000 rpms. Oh when I am on the highway @ 65mph in 5th gear at like 2300 rpms and I give it about 3/4 throttle, the rpms go to like 6800rpms and it seems like my car is redlining. It seems like either my clutch, or belt is slipping. The car is an 06 SS LSJ with stage 1 and ZZP CAI. Oh, and 39,8xx miles.
And when I get out of the car, there is a smell coming from the front of the car.
Any ideas? Thanks.

the "easy" way to tell if your clutch is slipping is to pop it into 5th while you're idling. If it doesn't stall, you definitely got a slipping clutch. If it does, then your tranny just ******* hates you.
sounds like clutch.. can't see slipping belt doing that.. does it smell like burnt peanut butter? lol then it's a clutch.. BTW giving any ammount of throttle in 5th isn't generally a good idea.. but good way to see if your clutch is slipping
Just while idling while on the clutch? Or do I let off and try to roll?
Crate Engine DEpot has a nice clutch upgrade. Get the clutch and a new flywheel. Better than stock but not crazy engagment like some of the Stg 3's and 4's. It's a solid upgrade over stock.
AHHHHH!
The owner before me must've burnt it all up.
Luckily for me I got an uncle who owns a mechanic shop!
Link and/or part #?

And I just drove it again, to confirm the 5th gear and burnt peanut butter smell, and it seems to have gotten alot worse than earlier. I can barely drive it in 2nd or 3rd without the rpm/clutch spike/slip. Is there something that can be making it drastically worse?
Definitely a REALLY bad clutch. Pressure plate might not be clamping the clutch to the flywheel very well, making the problem worse. Either way you need a new clutch asap lol. And the post about it being 1000 to have it changed is correct. If you are good with cars, it can be done in an afternoon.
if it smells like burnt peanut butter and teh RPM's spike it's definately a clutch. stop driving it so you have enough left to drive it to a garage and get it replaced lol same thing happened to me in my Talon TSI
I got my new clutch from here
04-307.3C Stage 3 Ceramic Clutch Kit: Chevy Cobalt SS - 9-1/2"
Paid $443.09 for the clutch $200 for a new fly wheel and $500 for labour. That was 2 years ago and I haven't had any problems with it since

Been there man. I did the ZZP stage 3 clutch. Also had them do it since they're so familiar with the platform and I have no lift or a big shop. Anyway ZZP's labor was $450 which I thought was reasonable.
Either way good luck! I had that smell too, sucked. Now the clutch is amazing.
