A bit of a delema
The other day, my wife was driving, hit some black ice and went into a snow bank. The next day the CEL came on, so she took it to the dealers cuz it's still under warranty. They told her that she had bent the rad, and the engine cooling fan was fried. Apparently it's not covered under warranty cuz there was "ice build up" that caused it, (BTW, she didn't tell them that she hit a snow bank!! Shhhhhh!), and it would cost $340 to replace them. My first question is, isn't something like that usually covered under warranty, or are they just trying to get out of it? My second question refers to something else. Since the CEL came on, my remote start doesn't work. I checked the Driver Information Center on the cluster, and it said that the remote start is turned on, but it just won't work. Does anyone know why this could be? I don't think it has anything to do with the rad or cooling fan, but could it just be because the CEL is on?
Warranties cover defects in workmanship, parts, or design, as it came from the factory. What you have here is either out-of-pocket or an insurance claim, because it wasn't GM that did that.
The Remote Start may not work while the car knows there's a coolant problem because you don't want to start it and have the car overheat itself. Depending on the code, my bet is that it's a safeguard, since you wouldn't be in the car to know it's overheating to turn it off.

That. Warrenties do not cover lack of proper care by letting ice build up as they think it was and not knowing she hit black ice and a snow bank is not a factory defect, file an insurance claim as it was a collision, and just be happy she was not hurt
