Blow By

When I pull off my oil cap while the car is running, I get alot of gases coming out. Its feels the same as my exhaust, it's quite warm, "puts" like the exhaust, and smells like exhaust.

Also, I find that my oil turns black pretty quickly.

Could this be a problem with my engine? Or is that much blow-by normal?

well, blow by is not really a good thing....if you feel that it's likley to be a problem I would do a compression test on the motor to see what's going on....

For each cylinder, crank engine through 4 compression strokes.......The lowest reading cylinder should not be less than 70 percent of the highest.....No cylinder reading should be less than 100 psi.

Make sure you pull all 4 sparkplugs out at one time too -- not one-at-a-time.

I know how to do it

I was just wondering what a "normal" reading for a 2.2 is, like 180psi is what is normal for my honda

then you should see that I said none should be LESS then 100 psi.....GM doesn't give an exact number....as long as all 4 cylinders are in close readings I doubt you have anything to worry about...but I personally would be happy with about 150 psi
