I have a 4 door 06 Cobalt SS sedan 2.4L.

I have been using regular gas since 2006 (when I purchased) and noticed in the manual I should be using a higher Octane.

I filled up yesterday with 89 Octane and it seems like I am burning gas a lot faster! Is this right? Or Should I be using even higher Octane?

well I am doing the same amount of driving as before. I filled up and after about 30km I almost burned 1/4 tank. With regular gas I would still be at the full mark.

put 91 in like your supposed to.
higher or lower octane will not affect your fuel mileage.
if anything higher may help a tiny bit more, as thats what the car is supposed to be using.

 

i would say its because the computer has learned on low octane fuel...so it is using more of the high octane fuel to do the same thing, untill it re-learns perameters again

 

Does the car automatically re-learn parameters or do you have to force it somehow?

 

wouldnt unplugging the batter for 15 minutes force it to "relearn" on next startup

If that is even the problem
