buying a cobalt, worried it has a problem, please help!
i personally think he blew up the trans, i find it odd he replaced it 3000 miles ago to add the lsd and now he wants to sell it, if you were planning to sell the car and there was nothing wrong with the trans why put all that money out to replace it?
[COLOR="Magenta"]I've been a member on here for several months and have been searching for the right cobalt...I wanted a tc, but I will be using this car as a DD only, so I found a 2005 for $10,500 that I put a deposit on, but I think it has an issue...
When the car is started the front bumper shakes really bad, it is very noticeable and makes a pretty loud sound. Is this a common problem or what do you think could be the issue??
It is a 2005 with 83,000 miles on it. 265 whp
The owner had the trans changed, the LSD added with the new trans, added a lighter flywheel and a higher performance clutch at 80,000 miles(this was done by a mechanic in their home garage). It is also tuned by Tune Time in NJ
Here are the Mods done to it...
Engine
1.8" Pulley on supercharger
Adjustable belt tensioner
GM Stage 2 belt
60# Siemens Injectors
2 Step colder Iridium spark plugs
Meziere Aftermarket Intercooler pump
ZZ Performance Secondary Intercooler
Option B kit (Expansion tank for Intercooler system
Magna Flow Cat-Back Exhaust System
Optima Yellow Top Battery
Suspension/Brakes
Eibach Lowering Springs
DC Strut Tower Brace
Hawk Racing brake pads
Drilled and slotted rotors
Braided Stainless brake lines
Transmission
Changed at 80,000 miles
ACT clutch kit with high performance clutch and lighter flywheel
Brand New Limited Slip Differential transmission
Stiffer Transmission Mounts
Your issue is probably this^
Interior
Hurst Short Throw Shifter
Alarm System that will go off if you kick the tire
Red Lights that light up the floor in the front and rear
Trunk is lined with Dynamat
and it has aftermarket hood and healights, which I know has nothing to do with the problem..
any ideas???

i'm pretty sure tune time did the pulley so i will call tomorrow to check on that, but he has it listed as a 1.8"
it has dual intercoolers so maybe it is on the crash bar?, one is in the lower part of the grille covered with a billet grille and the other is behind the upper grille

That would be my train of thought. I want a new transmission for my car to get the LSD (and 4.45 final drive, but that's not likely....oh well, I can dream) since adding it is such a PITA (NOT willing to rip open a perfectly good transmission to install one), but if I had even an inkling of selling, I wouldn't dump the time/money into it.
If you could find an 07 with Recaro's that would be sweet but since they are so hard to find .... Damn I miss my old Recaro's
after talking with some local guys, im going ahead and buying it, they will look at it before hand for me, but id rather get it with the mods already done, than to pay out the butt to get them all done after purchasing....and you cannot find one around here for less than 10k
Lol, so you ask advice, 90% of the people say don't buy it, people with way more knowledge about this specific car then you or most repair shops and your buying it anyways.
Why ask if you had your mind made up already.
Thats Cobalt SS forums for you

I talked to several local cobalt guys and one is going to look at itbefore I go through with it. And my mind was not made up, I've looked and several others all in the 05 to 06 range and are asking 11 to 15 for them..I don't know where anyone is finding cheaper ones in the philly area, because I've looked, and I don't wan a banged up looking like crap on th inside and out. I appreciate the advice, but it is my money, my decision.
Oh and he's a member on here....here is the car

Wiith gas prices the value of small cars has actually gone up. I looked up my 2010 SS and it blue books for more than what i paid for it brand new. A 2005 SS with 83000 blue books for $10.5K in excellent condition.
kbb puts mine for delear price at 14.7k value
i bought it a year ago for 12.9k from a dealer.

Good thing you have money and another car cause you're gonna need it. First of all yes you are paying too much. 2nd mods do drive the price down. 3rd it's NOT a 1.8" pulley. if it was you're dipstick would shoot out before you even got the pedal to the floor and the rods would shoot out giving your "awesome hood" some nice air induction vents.
it was a mustang dyno so it's definately not making 265whp. mustang dyno's are very giving in the numbers. probably make maybe 250 on a dynojet.
Carfax doesn't mean a thing, pretty sure alleycat58 can tell you all about that
. If you think you're making a wise decision by buying the car premodded so you don't have to do the modding yourself you are in for a rude awakening. can't wait to see your thread a month from now about how this car is a POS lol.

This isn't going to turn out well for the OP. NEVER buy a modded car unless you can personally fix it yourself, have the time and money to do it, or you trust the person who did it really well. More often than not you are buying someone's screw up or something that had the crap beat out of it. Its also over priced and might have had a blown trans which goes back to never buying a modded car.
His craigslist add says its a 1.8" pulley...I did a little research and found him on here...an yes his 2d gear went out or something so the trans was replaced...I found that out via his posts on here....this is going to be a my daily driver and I will track it a few times, I know what I am getting int. I have a nice lexus to fall back on if something breaks, reaity a chevy cobalt is not expensive to fix vs. What it would cost to fix a lexus...and I've looked at 3 2006 all stock ones and they wanted 12 to 15 for them and the exteriors looked like crap...its my car and my choice....so no need to bash what choice I make.
