Guys,

I just got around to install my BPS shifter and I have been fighting with it over an hour and I can't get the shifter into 5th gear. 1-4 and reverse work fine but it just won't push up into 5th gear. Its almost like the left shifter cable needs to be adjusted but I keep messing with it and it just won't do anything.

I have never had such an issue installing a short throw shifter. The entire install went pretty well up until this point. I am getting to the point where I may have to tear this out and put the stocker back in just so I can have all 5 gears again. Any suggestions?

play with the left side cable clamp, it may take a few times, mine did it too

I put a mark on my cable before I unistalled the stock shifter so it was pretty close the the rite stop

Yeah, when I did mine didn't even touch the left clamp.
Marked the right clamp, and got it as close as possible when BPS was in, and no issues.

i replaced the hole shifter assmebly, i thought the left clamp fixed my issue, guess im wrong, either way play with the clamps

The left clamp needs adjusted, it controls how far over the shifter will go before the lockout stops it.

Lift up on the reverse lockout and put the car into 5th, then unclamp the left clamp and put the shifter so the lockout is almost but not quite touching the right side. Clamp it back down and see if it works correctly in all gears, repeat as necessary.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I wound up messing around with it for awhile longer and got it to go into 5th. Sadly it must have been going into 5th but it just didn't feel right. I wound up using a marker and marking the left cable to see where it was when I went into each gear. When I thought it kept going back into 3rd when I was trying for 5th it wasn't.

Also it helps to try to test the shifts with the reverse lock out part on the short throw. I was testing it without this and because so, I was pushing too far over to the right and up which wouldn't allow for what I thought was no 5th gear. After installing the reverse lock out, it guides me right into 5th gear.

So just to let anyone else know going to install this make sure you have the reverse lockout part installed when testing the shifter so it helps guide you into 5th gear without hunting.
