Car cannot be boosted...?

Hello hello,

My car has been giving me battery problems lately. Its pretty pathetic considering its a 2007. My 93 Grand Am GT never had any battery problems. Interesting...

But seriously, if i leave the car alone for about 48hrs the battery goes completey dead. GM said they do not know what the problem is, and gave it back to me after they charged the battery. Well big ****** surprise, the problem has not been fixed magically on its own. Now my car is dead again, and I am fed up of calling GM roadside assistance to come boost it and tell me "Its not normal". No ****? So i go buy jumper cables with my bro. I try to boost the car and nothing happens. Nothing. Not even any sparks from the cables or any sign of life whatsoever.

Here is how I attempted to boost:

1. Positive clamp on positive battery terminal on dead cobalt
2. positive clamp on fuse box thingy under the hood of live cobalt
3. negative clamp on cross frame (tried again on engine block) of live cobalt
4. negative clamp on negative battery terminal on dead cobalt
5. start live cobalt
6. attempt to start dead cobalt. absolutely nothing happens.

Am i doin this right? I boosted my friends cobalt exactly like this once.....

I'm gonna guess your alternator is bad if they replaced the battery and it still keeps dieing

most likley a parasitic draw on the battery, not the alternator.....since it dies when the car sits for a day or two

You were doing it right but when the battery is completely dead you have to leave the cables on for a while(with boosting car running) before trying to start the car.

Fully charged battery is good for a few days of driving in most cars. I agree with Scotty and your alt being bad. Get it tested before you fight any more with the battery.

But if i use the car everyday after gm charges the battery it works fine. around 36-48hrs of not being started, it dies completely.

my friend also brought a battery charger over... we but the clamps to the battery terminals and left it on 12v 10amps for a while and nothing...?

so its a draw/drain on the battery then

but make them check the alternator too cause it has been working harder lately to keep the battery charged and could be bad also now

Sounds like a dead alternator.

To boost it, you could try just fusebox post to fusebox post? Battery to battery? There should still be sparks from the live Cobalt to the dead one......something is up there.

Subject: Battery Draw From The BCM 2 Fuse

Models: 2005-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

2006-2009 Chevrolet HHR

2007-2009 Pontiac G5

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Customers may report a battery drain on their vehicle. Upon inspection technicians may see a battery draw of 100-170 mA on the battery. Typically when the BCM 2 fuse in the BCM is pulled, the draw goes away. When looking at the wiring schematics you will NOT see the microprocessor (inside the BCM) that is powered by this fuse. This Microprocessor is sending small amounts of voltage out on the door lock input circuit #682 (White, BCM X1 pin 7) and the dome lamp output circuit #149 (D-BU/WHT, BCM X3 pin A3), Either of these circuits could be pulled low and will cause this condition.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Install the Tech-2/Candi module and look at the door lock switch status in the BCM data section. Status should be reading " Idle". If it reads Unlock or Lock, then check for a possible short to ground in circuit #682 (White) or a possible door lock switch concern. If those check out OK then remove circuit #149 from the BCM and wait to see if your draw times out in 20 minutes. If it does then check for a STG in circuit #149 (D-BU/WHT).
